Nokia Review

Nokia PhoneWe’ve already talked about the fact that Nokia are now longer the mobile phone powerhouse that they used to be. That doesn’t mean, however, that Nokia devices are not popular with some people or that they are poor for mobile betting. To clear up the situation, therefore, let’s take a look at the main strengths of Nokia devices when it comes to using them for downloading betting apps and betting on the move.

Why It’s Good for Betting Apps

The most recently released smartphones with the Nokia brand name attached to them are handsets which utilise the Android operating system. These phones, therefore, are excellent when it comes to utilising mobile betting apps as most – if not all – bookmakers tailor their apps to work best on devices run by that system.

If you have a Nokia branded smartphone which was released in 2017 or later, therefore, you will be able to download and use the Android version of any bookmaker’s mobile betting app with absolute confidence that it will work perfectly with your device.

Why It’s Not Good for Betting Apps

For reasons which we will get into when we discuss Nokia as a company and brand below, any Nokia branded phone released before December 2016 is generally less good for use with mobile betting apps.

The reason for this is because those handsets were all based around the now essentially defunct Windows Phone operating system. There are very few bookmakers who offer a downloadable Windows Phone version of their betting app and the mobile website offerings from most bookmakers are also not optimised for the Windows Phone operating system.

Company Overview

Nokia TabletNokia is a Finnish multi-national corporation which was originally founded all the way back in 1865 as a pulp mill. In the ensuing decades, the company has entered and then left many different industries but today identifies as a telecommunications, information technology and consumer electronics firm. It was this Finnish firm, too, which was for a period the world’s leading mobile phone vendor and was responsible for world famous handsets such as the 3210 and the 3310.

When traditional mobile phones began to be usurped by smartphones, however, Nokia ran into considerable competition and market struggles. That led, in 2011, to a major partnership with Microsoft, the terms of which determined that Nokia smartphones would operate using the Windows Phone operating system. That system proved far less popular than either Android or iOS and in 2014 Nokia were bought out by Microsoft entirely and exited the mobile phone industry.

For a couple of years Microsoft Mobile, the subsidiary Microsoft created from the former Nokia mobile phone division, continued to manufacture and market Windows Phone operated handsets. In December 2016, however, Microsoft gutted their mobile phone business and sold the Nokia brand name and feature phone line to Finnish start-up HMD Global. That phone has since begun to develop and release new Nokia branded smartphones which now run on the Android operating system.

Android betting apps are readily available and under constant development by online bookmakers so the future is bright for Nokia phone and tablet fans on that front.
