What is Best Odds Guaranteed?

Best odds guaranteed is a promotion which offers you the chance to take an early price but then if the starting price of your bet is longer odds you get paid at those longer odds. It’s basically to stop you missing out on a better price if becomes available so as not to penalise punters for when they place their bet.

How Does It Work?

With the BOG what you receive is confirmation from the bookmaker that whichever is the highest odds out of the price you took when you placed the bet, or the Starting Price of the horse when the race got under way, that is the price you will be paid out at.

There can be some confusion over exactly how this promo works with some bookmakers. Some punters mistakenly assume this means that they are getting the best odds on their selection out of all bookmakers, but that is not the case with this offer.

This is best explained by means of a couple of examples…

How does the BOG promise work?

Example One:

In example one we’ll take any best odds guaranteed for horse racing promotion. A punter places a £10 win bet on a horse running in a UK race with any of the bookies listed above. When they place the bet their selection is priced at 6/1, but when the race starts the SP of the horse is 8/1. The horse wins the race.

In this example, the guarantee would kick in and instead of receiving the £70 return they would get from their initial odds, the lucky punter would instead receive back the £90 return they are due thanks to the Starting Price being 8/1.

Example Two:

This time we’ll use best odds guaranteed for greyhounds. A punter places a £10 win bet on a dog in a UK race with a bookmaker offering the promotion. They place the initial bet at odds of 5/1, but when the race starts, the odds have shortened to a SP of 3/1. The dog then wins the race.

In this example, the punter would still receive the higher odds of 5/1 that they took out initially when placing the bet, ensuring that they received a £60 return, as opposed to the £40 return punters would receive for the same bet taking the SP.

Note: If your horse does not win, or generate a return by finishing in an each way position in the race, then you receive no returns anyway, so the guarantee is not activated.
