*Geo Restrictions Apply – How They Work

Geo RestrictionsAlongside the requirements imposed by the bookmakers themselves, there are also other rules which dictate which events may be streamed live online for punters. Generally speaking these are rules regarding broadcasting rights and will differ from country to country.

Whichever country you are in, however, the highest level sport within the nation itself will almost always be broadcast by one TV network or another. When that is the case, the networks in question will likely have near-exclusive rights over the broadcasting of that sport and as such live streams from bookmakers will not be available. It is for this reason that you will never find bookmaker streams of Premier League, FA Cup or other top level domestic football available in the UK.

All of the above should have given you a good overview of the live streaming situation when it comes to online bookmakers. In order to ensure that you are fully informed, however, we have also included some frequently asked questions and their brief answers below.

Live Streaming FAQs

Questions answered.

Isn’t Streaming Online Illegal?

The short answer to this is no, and if a reputable bookmaker is offering a live stream you can be sure that it is entirely legal. Where live streaming can fall foul of the law is when an online stream of an event is offered in a country where the broadcasting rights for the event forbid it. You would never find such streams, however, being offered by trustworthy and well-known bookmakers.

What Kind of Connection Does Live Streaming Require?

The exact technical requirements for viewing a live stream differ from one provider to another and will always be found within the bookmaker’s help section or FAQs. In general, however, most stipulate that you will need a broadband connection of 512 kbp/s or higher.

What System Requirements are There?

As well as the aforementioned broadband connection, live streams also tend to have some other system requirements which can also be found within the bookmaker’s own help sections. These typically will include the need to be using a comparatively modern operating system and one of the newest versions of your favoured internet browser.
