How Does the Ryman League Work?

Hopefully the comparison table above has helped you decide which bookies is best for you. Now let’s take a look at how the actual league works.

As there are three different leagues within the Ryman League, the infrastructure can seem confusing, although the basic premise is that those clubs promoted from the Premier League will go into the Conference South – also known as the Blue Square League. Generally three clubs are promoted each season to the Conference South, with three other clubs getting relegated from the higher division into the Ryman League.

For teams in Division 1 North and Division 1 South, the object is to gain promotion to the Premier League, although teams do get relegated, usually into a league that simply comprises of teams in their local area. The fact that this can’t be controlled means that the leagues are often tinkered with, so that a team moves from one to the other to keep the leagues equally balanced in terms of numbers.

Who are the Top Teams?

The Ryman League is split up into three different leagues, and as such there are teams from each of these leagues who are considered as being strong, therefore meaning that they have the best chance of gaining promotion.

In the Premier Division, the strongest teams are considered to be Billericay Town, Lewes, Hendon and the Metropolitan Police, who were promoted to the division only last season.

Division 1 North is currently being dominated by Grays Athletic and Needham Market, although Thamesmead Town are also considered as strong contenders for the title this season as well.

Finally, Division One South boasts three teams currently playing extremely good football: Dulwich Hamlet, Maidstone United (a former Football League team) and Bognor Regis Town.
