Australian Open Tennis – Will Sinner Be A Winner In Oz?

The Australian Open tennis tournament is now underway in Melbourne! This is the first Grand Slam of the year and will offer players the opportunity to kick off their new season by landing one of the four Slam events of the year.
Let’s now take a look at some of the contenders in both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments.
Australian Open – Men’s Tournament
This promises to be a keenly contested tournament in the men’s event, but there are still a trio of players rated as the most likely winners. Jannik Sinner, the current World Number 1, US Open Champion and Australian Open Champion, is the 2.20 favourite with bet365 to win the third Grand Slam event of his career.
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (4.50) and veteran superstar Novak Djokovic (5.50) are rated to be Sinner’s main rivals for the event.
Outside the main trio, Alexander Zverev (11.00), Danil Medvedev (15.00) and Taylor Fritz (29.00) are rated a the best prospects.
Britain’s best hopes lie with Jack Draper, who is a 51.00 shot alongside Alex De Minaur.
In terms of outsiders, the home crowd will undoubtedly support the wild man of tennis, Nick Kyrgios. The controversial Australian is back after a spell out through injury and he will garner plenty of support from the home crowd. He is rated as 126.00 to win the event, but he is a Slam finalist, having reached the Wimbledon final a few years back.
Tip: Jannik Sinner is the defending champion and has won the last two slams on hard courts. Expect the Italian to make it three in a row here.
Australian Open – Women’s Tournament
The women’s slam events have been very open in the last few years, with a number of players some high in the rankings, others ranked much lower, taking titles. However, the bookmakers feel that there are four players in with a strong chance.
The first of these is Aryna Sabalenka (3.25), who has won this event for the past two years. The current World Number 1 has won three of the last four hard court Slam events and added the US Open to her Australian Open title in 2024.
Her main rivals will be the likes of former World Number 1 Iga Swiatek and American youngster Coco Gauff (both 5.00), both of whom are previous Grand Slam winners and who have also been amongst the top players on the women’s tour over the past couple of years.
Elena Rybakina is another rated as in with a good chance with the bookmakers (9.00) but there are also lots of others in consideration in what is a very open women’s event once again.
Tip: Sabalenka is the favourite, but Iga Swiatek is overdue another Slam title and she is great value at 5.00 with bet365.
The Australian Open heralds the start of a new year in tennis, and as the first Grand Slam event of the year, it offers the opportunity for one man and one woman to get their new tennis season off to the best possible start!
