Arne Slot - Liverpool

This Sunday sees a game which could well go a long way towards deciding the outcome of the Premier League title. Current league leaders Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield in a game that could have huge implications for the destination of the title come May.

It will also be the first time that the teams have met since Jurgen Klopp left his role as manager at Liverpool and his replacement, Arne Slot, has got off to a fantastic start at Anfield.

Let’s now take a look at the form of both these teams heading into this crucial and exciting Premier League showdown.

Slots Reds March On

This past weekend Liverpool entered matchday 12 of the season with a five point lead over Manchester City and a nine point lead over the teams below them. By the end of it, they had extended that lead over City to eight points.

The Reds travelled to bottom club Southampton on Sunday and despite going a goal up in the first half thanks to Dominik Szobozslai, found themselves 2-1 down in the second half after goals from Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes put the Saints in front.

However, Mo Salah brought Liverpool level and then the Egyptian king converted a penalty late in the game to give Liverpool their tenth win in twelve Premier League games.

And given what had happened in the previous 24-hours, it was a crucial victory for the Reds.

Pep’s City Struggles Continue

While Arsenal, Chelsea and Brighton all recorded wins earlier in the day, Manchester City faced Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad knowing they could not afford to slip up.

City had lost all their last four games, a first for Pep Guardiola, and they began brightly against the visitors but what followed stunned many of those watching on.

A double salvo from James Maddison put Spurs 2-0 at half time and then in the second half, further goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson made it 4-0 to Spurs, stunning the home crowd and leaving City just a point ahead of a trio of teams chasing them in second.

Ahead of Sunday

Both teams are in action ahead of Sunday’s game at Anfield. Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, while City are in action on Tuesday in the same competition, taking on Arne Slot’s former club Feyenoord.

Liverpool are top of the Champions League table at present, the only team with 12 points from their four games. City are 10th in the table with seven points from their four matches.

Team News

Four Liverpool stars may miss the game with City, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Enrico Chiesa. City will be without Rodri, Oscar Bobb, Mateo Kovacic, John Stones and Jeremy Doku, while Ruben Dias may be close to a return to action.
