After Rory McIlroy landed his first Masters Green Jacket and completed the Grand Slam of Major titles back in April, focus now shifts onto the second major of the season, the USPGA Championship, from the 15th to the 18th May at Quail Hollow.

In-form McIlroy, who has also claimed The Players Championship, known throughout golf as ‘the fifth major’, back in March is amongst the favourites to land another Major to his burgeoning trophy cabinet.

However, it is likely that the Irishman won’t have things all his own way given a stellar field packed with talent from all over the world, especially on a course that can be as difficult as North Carolina’s Quail Hollow.

USPGA Championship 2025 – The Course

The par-71 course is 7,600 yards in length (6,949 metres) and features no fewer than six holes over 500 yards long, three of which are par fours.

This includes an unforgiving opening hole that measures 524 yards from the Championship tees, a 505-yard par four ninth and a very tricky 506 yard par 4 16th.

There’s little respite on the par three holes either with three of the four par 3 holes all measuring over 200 yards and the shortest hole on the course measuring in at 184-yards.

Fans of McIlroy will be heartened to hear that the course record is a 61, shot by Rory himself at the Wells Fargo (now Truist) Championship in 2015, when he landed a tournament record -21 under to win the title.

USPGA Championship 2025 – The Players

In total 14 former USPGA Champions will tee off in the tournament on Thursday. They include veterans Jimmy Walker, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Martin Kaymer, Jason Dufner, Shaun Micheel and Padraig Harrington.

Former winners who will feel that they have a better chance of success include Jason Day, Keegan Bradley, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas and of course, Rory McIlroy.

Michael Block, the club professional from Southern California, who made waves when finishing 15th in the 2023 USPGA, will once again participate in the event alongside 19 other PGA Club Pros.

Several players received invites from the PGA of America to play in the tournament including Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Rasmus Hojgaard, Dustin Johnson, Joaquin Nuemann, Patrick Reed, Cam Young, Will Zalatoris and Luke Donald.

Other star names in attendance include Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Sepp Straka, Min Woo Lee, Jordan Spieth, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, Cam Smith, Shane Lowery, Bryson DeChambeau, Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Hideki Matsuyama.

USPGA Championship 2025 – Our Picks

To Win

Rory McIlroy – 5.50

It seems ridiculous to think one golfer could win the Players Championship, Masters and then the USPGA in three consecutive months, but McIlroy has a fantastic chance. He is playing the best golf in the field, his confidence will be sky high and he is playing on a course where he has enjoyed repeated success and holds the course record. He is the obvious pick if you are going for a win-only bet.

Each Way

Max Homa – 76.00

After having a torrid start to the season, Max Homa played himself into some semblance of form at the Masters, finishing tied for 12th. He then followed that up with a 70th place finish at the RBC Heritage, mainly due to a final round 75. He has won previously at Quail Hollow, one of his two Wells Fargo Championship wins. The signs are he is recovering his form and at 75/1, is a great value each way option.
