Horse Racing – Boxing Day Meeting at Kempton

Although known as the Boxing Day meeting at Kempton Park, this famous festive meeting, now known as the Ladbrokes Christmas Festival, actually features two days of racing on the 26th December, Boxing Day, and the 27th December.

With six races each day, the highlight of the festival is the King George VI Chase which has boasted some of the most famous winners over the years including four-time winner Desert Orchid, three-time winner Wayward Lad and more recent legends including five-time winner Kauto Star, two-time winners Kicking King, Long Run, Silviniaco Conti and Clan des Obeaux as well as famous one-time winners Might Bite and the fabulous Thistlecrack.

Last year, it was Banbridge ridden by Paul Townend and trained by Joseph O’Brien who was victorious. The horse is back this year to defend the title but is 16/1 with bet365 to win the race. Gaelic Warrior is the 7/4 favourite, with Jango Baie (2/1), the Jukebox Man (5/1), Djelo (8/1) and Fact To File (9/1) amongst the other favourites in the ante-post markets.

Add to this the fact that the PDC World Darts Championship is in full flow with first round matches through to the 28th December, followed by all the remaining matches from the latter stages of the tournament and you can see you won’t be short of sport while enjoying your mince pies!
