The festive season is a time for reflection, to spend quality time with friends and family and indulge in a little excess. However, it is also a fantastic time for sports fans too with a host of top sports events taking place over the festive period.

Outlined below are some of the top sports events that you can enjoy over the festive period, starting with sporting action from across the Atlantic taking place on Christmas Day evening!

Christmas Day Sporting Highlights

  • NFL – 6pm – Kansas City Chiefs @ Pittsburgh Steelers, 
  • NFL – 9.30pm – Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans

There are two games to enjoy on Christmas Day evening which kick off Week 17 of the NFL season. The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Steel City to take on Pittsburgh in a battle between two teams that have already made it into the playoffs.

Then at 9.30pm, you can enjoy your After Eights by following the action from Texas as the hometown Houston Texans take on the Baltimore Ravens in another battle between two playoff-bound AFC teams.

Boxing Day Sporting Highlights

  • Horse Racing – 12.45pm – Kempton Park Boxing Day Meeting

The Christmas meeting at Kempton Park is back with two days of racing beginning on Boxing Day with the first race at 12.45pm and later on is the big race the King George VI Chase. Last year’s winner Hewick is back to try and win the race for a second time following in the footsteps of the likes of Arkle, Kauto Star and Desert Orchid.

  • Premier League – Boxing Day Fixtures

The traditional Boxing Day fixture list in the Premier League and Football League is back and highlight matches of the day include Manchester City facing Everton, Newcastle v Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest v Tottenham and Chelsea v Fulham. Eight games are played on Boxing Day with the remaining two on the 27th December.

  • Cricket – Boxing Day Test Match – Australia v India (Fourth Test)

Some years, the Boxing Day test at the MCG in Melbourne is an Ashes game. The next one of those will be Boxing Day in 2025 but this year, it is the touring Indian cricket team who will take part as the teams meet in the Fourth Test of a Five Test series. The series is delicately poised with India leading 2-1 and the last test ended in a draw in a weather hit match.

27th December Sporting Highlights

  • Darts – PDC World Championship Continues

After a break over the main Christmas period, the PDC World Championship restarts with an afternoon session that will see a cracking game between James Wade’s conqueror,Jermaine Wattimena against the hugely talented former World Champion, ‘Snakebite’ Peter Wright. Matches continue every day through to the 30th December and then restart on the 1st January.
