Who are the British football stars making a splash playing abroad?
There was a time when British-based footballers rarely moved abroad. That trend has changed in recent years, and there are now a number of famous and not-so-famous stars making a name for themselves in foreign leagues.
In this post, we are going to take a look at some of the players you will know, and perhaps some you were not aware of, who are flying the flag for British footballers abroad.
The Top British Stars Abroad
Jude Bellingham (AMC, Real Madrid)
The England superstar only spent time in England with his boyhood club Birmingham City. But he has since shone for both Dortmund and now Real Madrid becoming one of the best footballers in the world and a mainstay of the England team.
Mason Greenwood (AC, Marseille)
He may have left Manchester United under a cloud, but after a successful loan spell at Getafe last season, he joined Marseille permanently in the summer where he has scored five goals in five Ligue One games to start the season.
Tammy Abraham (AC, AC MIlan – On Loan from AS Roma)
The former Chelsea star enjoyed a good spell at Roma when Jose Mourinho was the manager in his first year, scoring 27 goals in that season. His production has fallen away a little since, but he is still a productive striker now on loan at AC Milan.
Fikayo Tomori (DC, AC Milan)
The second of a trio of English stars at AC Milan is arguably the player that has impressed most for the Rossonieri. Tomori has come in and proven to be an adaptable, pacy and strong defender, leading to calls for him to be considered more readily for England.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (MC, AC Milan)
The former Chelsea midfielder has established himself as a key player in the Milan midfield over the last two seasons and the benefits he gets from regularly starting is translating into better performances.
Harry Kane (AC, Bayern Munich)
The England captain and leading goalscorer is now the focal point of Bayern Munich’s attack and has taken the Bundesliga by storm, where he has scored 41 goals in just 36 games for FC Hollywood.
Angel Gomes (DMC, Lille)
The ex-Manchester United man made his England debut in the last set of internationals and he has been a standout performer for Lille in Ligue 1, creating eight goals from midfield last season.
Lewis Ferguson (AMC, Bologna)
The Scottish midfielder missed Euro 2024 through injury and was sorely missed. He is one of the top players at Bologna and a key part of Thiago Motta’s team that reached the Champions League last season.
