Who Will Come Out on top in Sunday’s North London Derby?

Havertz of Arsenal

The North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal is always an important fixture. It’s even more important this Sunday (April 28) with both clubs desperate for the three points. Who should we be backing in this vital Premier League match at the New White Hart Lane?

Gunning for the title

After going three games without a win, Arsenal bounced back with a 2-0 victory at Wolverhampton Wanderers on April 20. That win took them back to the top of the English Premier League. At the end of the weekend, they remained top but only on goal difference from Liverpool.

The Gunners are due to host Chelsea on Tuesday April 23 and certainly will want three points from that game. If they don’t get a win, then beating Tottenham will become even more of an absolute must.

Arsenal’s away form in the Premier League has sometimes held back their title challenges. This season has been the total opposite. They have the best away record in the league with 11 wins from their 17 matches. It’s 11/10 at bet365 that they can win at Tottenham on Sunday.

Being able to keep clean sheets on the road is always important. Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Wolves last Saturday meant they have gone six away Premier League games without conceding a goal.

There’s been none of the old ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’ either with them scoring 22 goals in those six matches. One of those games even ended goalless, that being the away match against Manchester City. Arsenal have kept ten away league clean sheets this season. You can get 19/5 at BetVictor on them beating Tottenham to nil.

It certainly wasn’t a clean sheet when they hosted Tottenham in September. An exciting game saw Arsenal twice take the lead (through an own goal and a penalty) but the visitors managed to return home with a 2-2 draw. That made it three games unbeaten for Arsenal against Tottenham with the two previous matches both being won.

The Battle for the Champions League

Last week was not a great one for Tottenham’s hopes of Champions League football next season. It began with a 4-0 thrashing at Newcastle United and it could have been a much heavier defeat.

There’s been no European football for Tottenham this season. They had to sit and watch Arsenal, Manchester City, West Ham United and Liverpool all play and get knocked out. With only Aston Villa remaining in the Europa Conference League, it’s made Tottenham’s life a bit difficult.

It’s looking as if only the top four will qualify for next season’s Champions League. Aston Villa will go nine points clear of them if they beat Chelsea next Saturday. However, Tottenham will have three games in hand. It’s 9/4 at BetVictor Spurs can finish in the top four.

Tottenham would love to get back in the Champions League though but have to play each of the current top three in the table. The odds of a home win for Tottenham are 13/5 at bet365.

Tottenham’s away form of late isn’t helping them with just one point from the last three matches. At home though it’s a much better record. The last three have all been won making it 12 for the season in the Premier League. Four games have been lost without a draw in sight. It’s  that this weekend finally sees Tottenham draw a home league game.

Son-Heung min scored both of Tottenham’s goals in their most recent game against Arsenal. He’s 15/8 at bet365 to score on Sunday.

Tottenham may win plenty of home games but clean sheets are a bit of a rarity. Their last 12 home league fixtures have seen them concede at least once. All but one of their last 11 home league wins have seen both teams get on the scoresheet. BetVictor will give you 21/10 on a home win with both teams on the scoresheet.

There’s so much at stake in this match. Goals look likely and a draw with both teams scoring (3/1 at bet365) looks a likely result which won’t help either side.
