Who will win the Miami Grand Prix?

It was in 2022 that the first Miami Grand Prix was held. The third race is being held on Sunday May 5 and Max Verstappen will be going all out to win his fifth race of the new F1 season. Will he again be the winner?
In the two races that have been held in Miami, Verstappen has won them both for Red Bull. He goes into this sixth race of the new season with a 25-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez. Another title looks extremely likely for the Dutch driver and he’s only 1/100 at bet365 to become champion.
No one is going to get rich from odds like that are they? He’s won four of the five races that have been held this year. A better price is available for him to win this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix. Verstappen is the only driver to have won a race in Miami despite never having ever started in pole position. He’s only 1/7 with BetVictor to make it three in a row.
Sergio Perez is yet to win a race this year. His Red Bull has only once failed to finish in the top three this season. He’s 12/1 at William Hill to win this race but may well need Verstappen to have a problem with his car to get a win. You can get odds of 1/4 on him getting a podium finish and that looks a likely winner.
Can Ferrari beat Red Bull?
The only other winner this year has been Carlos Sainz Jr. His Ferrari won the Australian Grand Prix last month. He’s third in the driver’s standings but 41 points behind Max Verstappen but has had a podium finish in the previous two races held in Miami.
He’s 13/8 with BetVictor to finish on the podium this Sunday and 20/1 with the same bookmaker to win the race. A podium finish is a possibility.
The other Ferrari driver is Charles Leclerc who is third in the drivers’ standings. There’s a 34-point gap between him and leader Max Verstappen. The French driver is 66/1 at bet365 to win his first world title and that does look rather unlikely.
Leclerc had a successful race in Miami in 2022, finishing second after starting on pole. He’s only had two top three finishes so far this season. You can get 13/8 on him securing a podium finish on Sunday.
The top British driver at present is Lando Norris. The McLaren driver is fifth in the drivers’ standings and finished second in the last race held in Japan. That was his second top three finish of the season, so he may well get another podium finish in Miami. BetVictor gives odds of 11/8 that it happens and he’s 16/1 to win the race.
Mercedes woes continue
Mercedes are having a difficult season and that is likely to continue this weekend. Lewis Hamilton has only earned 19 points this season. He must be counting down the days until his move to Ferrari takes place.
He’s 50/1 at William Hill to win in Miami this weekend but that doesn’t look likely at all. The same bookmakers offer odds of 9/1 on a podium finish for the former world champion. Mercedes will need to make big improvements this weekend for that to come to fruition.
His teammate George Russell is seventh in the drivers’ championship, 14 points ahead of Hamilton. Russell has also been struggling to make an impact this year. Like his teammate he’s yet to get a podium finish this year.
He has finished in the top five in the two previous Miami Grand Prix races held in 2022 and 2023. Bet365 have him at 8/1 for a podium finish and 40/1 to win the race.
It looks like being another great race in Miami and success in the USA is so important for F1. Who’ll win this weekend? Well, it’s hard to get away from betting on Max Verstappen despite the short odds. Betting on podium finishes for the Ferrari drivers could well produce a profit.
