Who Will Win the Singles Titles at Wimbledon?

Novak Djokovic Wimbledon

The 2024 Wimbledon Championships get underway today. Carlos Alcaraz and Marketa Vondrousova will be attempting to retain the titles they won last year. Who should you be backing to triumph in this grass court Grand Slam?

Carlos Alcaraz won all 12 of the grass court matches he played last year. He’s played one tournament this year and lost to Jack Draper in the last eight at Queen’s Club. The Spaniard is 9/4 at William Hill to retain his title. He has a tough draw though and is in the same half as Jannik Sinner. If he can stay fit throughout the fortnight he has got a good chance.

Jannik Sinner is the top seed and the current world number one. He used to struggle at Wimbledon but in 2022 reached the last eight and then the semi-finals last year. Sinner has only lost three matches this year and already won the Australian Open. He’s 15/8 at bet365 to win his first Wimbledon title.

He doesn’t just have Alcaraz in his half of the draw. Round two could see him playing former finalist Matteo Berrettini in an all-Italian clash.

Don’t rule out Djokovic

It’s July and Novak Djokovic hasn’t reached a final this year. He’s had fitness problems but is due to play this tournament. His early matches don’t look too difficult however. If he can win those and stay fit, then the 7/2 at BetVictor could be a very good bet.

The fourth seed is Alexander Zverev and he’s in the same half of the draw as Djokovic. The German is 16/1 at bet365 to win but has never reached the last eight here. Britain’s hopes seem to rest on Jack Draper. He recently won the BOSS Open and beat Carlos Alcaraz at Queen’s Club.

He’s another who has had his fair share of injuries in the past. Can he survive two weeks playing five-set matches? He’s 25/1 if backed at BetVictor. Outsiders to consider include Taylor Fritz who is 33/1 at William Hill. The American won the Eastbourne International last Saturday.

Daniil Medvedev hasn’t been in the best of form this year but was a semi-finalist in 2023. Bet365 have him at 33/1 to win the title.

Swiatek must improve

The women’s singles is a very open affair. That was shown last year when Marketa Vondrousova was the surprise winner but is 40/1 at BetVictor to win this year. Iga Swiatek is the top seed but has yet to get past the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. The Pole is 7/2 at bet365 to win her first title.

Swiatek hasn’t played any warm-up tournaments and that is a bit of a worry. Swiatek has a difficult draw and it’s best to look elsewhere. Coco Gauff is the second seed and 13/2 at bet365. The American has never made it past round four at Wimbledon.

Gauff is in the same half of the draw as Aryna Sabalenka and French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini, so winning won’t be easy. Aryna Sabalenka has had some injury problems but if fit is a strong candidate here. Sabalenka is 4/1 at William Hill

The past two years have seen her reach the semi-final. Another good run by Sabalenka looks likely if fit. Ons Jabeur has lost the last two women’s singles at Wimbledon. The Tunisian is 14/1 at William Hill but has a tough draw.

Elena Rybakina won this title two years ago and is 11/2 with BetVictor. Here’s another player who has had some injury problems in recent weeks. Jessica Pegula recently won the grass court tournament played in Berlin. The American is 20/1 at bet365 but is yet to play in a Grand Slam semi-final.

Emma Raducanu is 35/1 at BetVictor but faces seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova in round one. Even if she wins, can she play well over a two-week tournament? Katie Boulter is Britain’s number one and 66/1 at bet365. The recent Nottingham Open has a tough draw though.

So who to bet on?  Jannik Sinner looks a good wager in the men’s singles. As for the women’s singles, Aryna Sabalenka could well be the winner.
