What is Free Bet If 2nd?
Betfred’s Free Bet If 2nd is a promotion that applies to both win & each way markets in any of the specified horse races nominated by Betfred. With Each Way bets, the promotion only applies to the Win part of the bet. It’s quite a simple offer, if your selection finishes 2nd, your stake will be returned as a free bet up to £10 and at a minimum of 50p.
The offer DOES NOT apply to the unnamed favourite or unnamed 2nd favourite special markets, basically you must select the exact horse when you place your bet to quality (it still applies to the favourites if you select them by name but not if you use the specific unnamed markets on Betfred).

If this sounds like an offer that you’d like to partake in, read on and find out all of the crucial details. You are free to take up the offer in as many races as you like, provided they are within Betfred’s nominated list on the website. Go to the Betfred website, click through to Promotions and then the Free Bet if 2nd page and you’ll find a list of nominated races.
Example:
You back ‘Gan On Lad’ in the 2:15 at Cheltenham (a race which qualifiers for the promotion) for £10 at 15/1 or 16.0. The horse ends up finishing 2nd, no problem, Betfred will refund your stake as a free bet worth £10!
The Free Bet if 2nd offers a significant advantage to the punter, as the offer states you get a free bet if your selection finishes 2nd. This is paid as a free bet, not cash, and the stake of the free bet is not returned once placed.
How to take part in the Free Bet if 2nd offer?
- Log in or open a new account with Betfred – Sign up & bet £10 get £50 bonus at Betfred! (18+, New customers only, T&C's apply)
- Go to the Promotions section at Betfred and select the Free Bet If 2nd link to see applicable races.
- Add the selection or selections you want to your bet slip and place your bet.
- Make sure that the race has at least 5 runners.
- Do not use existing free bet funds to place the bet.
- No opt-in is required, simply go ahead and place your Win or Each Way bet on any of the selected markets and your bet will be covered in case you horse finishes 2nd.
- Enjoy your payout if your bets are successful. There is no limit on the amount of markets you bet on, provided they are included in the lists above. If your horse finishes 2nd, don’t worry, you’ll receive a refund in the form of a free bet (50p minimum and the maximum Free Bet refund is £10 per customer per race).

- No CashedOut bets.
- In the event that the races finishes with a dead heat second, 50% of the stake will be returned as a free bet on both picks, with a max of £5 free bet per punter.

- No unnamed favourites (start price favourite) & unnamed 2nd favourites (start price 2nd favourite) pick bets will count.
- The race must contain 5 or more runners (non-runners are not included).
- Free bets will issued within 1 day of qualifying bets being paid out.
- Using free bet money to fill slips for this offer do not count.
- Free bets funds will be good to use for 1 week, any free wager that has not been used within 1 week of issue will be removed.
