Review of Betsson
Betsson are a Swedish company, first formed in 1963, who target both the Scandinavian market and the rest of Europe. In this Betsson review we’ll take a look at all the company has to offer and what’s available to online punters.
I personally find the Betsson site and app hard to use and confusing. I’ve got just over 13 years experience using betting sites so god knows how beginners would find it…
When you couple that with the fact that there’s currently no new customer bonus you’ve got yourself a bookmaker that’s not worth joining.
Pros & Cons of Betsson
- Wide selection of sports.
- Odds not the most competitive.
- Fees charged on deposits!
- No longer available in UK.
- No Live Streaming.
- No welcome bonus or promo’s.
Betsson Licensing & Safety
Is Betsson safe?
- Gave up their UK license
- Malta Gaming Authority license
- UK players not accepted
- Questionable rating
Betsson is operated by Betsson AB and this company is registered in Malta (license number C-34836). It is operated under a license granted by the Maltese Lotteries and Gaming Authority, who also regulate the activities on the site.
This licenses ensures that:
- All bets are completely fair and comply with the rules laid down to protect both the site and the customers from fraud and exploitation.
- Anyone with a specific problem relating to excessive gambling can receive timely and correct help to assist with their problem.
- All minors under 18 years old are prevented from using the services that the site provides.
The company used to also hold a license with the UKGC to serve the United Kingdom gambling market but gave up their license in October 2020 – in our opinion a bad sign as they likely couldn’t adhere to the stricter regulations which were put in place (mainly to protect players).
- Part of the wider Marathon Group which includes Marathon Alderney Ltd, Marathonbet Italy S.r.i, Marathonbet Spain and Panbet Curacao N.V.
- It is Marathon Alderney Limited which is responsible for marathonbet.co.uk.
- All of the Marathon Group’s different companies and domain names are properly licensed and regulated for their target territories.
- First established in 1997, meaning that it has more than 20 years’ worth of history within the industry.
- The firm is partnered with the Swedish Ice Hockey league.

- Lots of fees
- Debit card fees

How To Deposit To Betsson
First off the bad news, if you live in the GB, you can’t deposit at Betsson as the company doesn’t offer its service to UK customers any longer, closing them down in October 2020.
That was the time when more stringent measures came into place in the UK gambling industry, so you’d have to ask yourself why Betsson decided to jump ship at this point.
If you are not based in GB then clicking on the Deposit button when you have logged in will bring up the Cashier page and from here you select the Deposit option.
You can pick from the available payment methods to make your deposit, enter the relevant details and then add how much you wish to deposit into your account.
Remember, some deposit methods carry a charge, so be aware of that before you deposit. Once you are ready to proceed, click deposit and the funds will be transferred to your account.
How To Withdraw From Betsson
Withdrawing money from Betsson is easy. Log in to your account and click on the user icon. From the Cashier page that loads up, select Withdraw.
You can only make withdrawals back to the payment methods that you have used when depositing into the account. The exception to this is Paysafecard, which will require you to withdraw via bank transfer instead.
Once you have selected the payment method to be used and entered how much you want to withdraw, click the Withdraw button to start the process.
How Long Does It Take To Withdraw At Betsson?
Every withdrawal you make at Betsson is subject to an initial processing time with the betting site of up to 24-hours. However, once the withdrawal has been processed by Betsson, you may have to wait further for your money.
Neteller and Skrill users should see their cash in their account immediately. The same will be true for people using Trustly, but for smaller banks it may take between 1-3 days.
Visa and MasterCard withdrawals will take a further 2-5 banking days and Bank Transfers can take between 2 and 7 banking days. Remember banking days do not include weekend.
Customer Service at Betsson
What’s customer support like?
- On-site help section
- Live chat support
- Call-back service
- Email support
There is an extensive help section available at the Betsson site which does offer good insight into the most common issues customers may face on the site. However, if you wish to contact Betsson then you can do so in the following ways.
First off, for the quickest service, a Live Chat option is available on the site. Click on this and a chat window will open allowing you to chat to a customer services rep.
Another option, which is a positive one, is a call-back service which will see you log a request for a call-back and then a customer services rep will give you a call back at some point between 15 and 60 minutes later at most times.
Both of the above options are accessed via the help section of the website (click the ? icon at the top of the page).
Finally, you can also email Betsson directly, and they will respond to your email between 30 and 60 minutes after it is sent. The address is: email@example.com
We do like the fact Betsson put on response times for their support services as this is always a good thing to know before you contact the company.
Review of Betsson Website
Is Betsson Easy To Use?
- Poor betting app
- Confusing navigation
- Popular sports available
- Compare poorly to other bookies
Betsson Mobile Review
We have to be honest here and say that we were slightly concerned when we saw the Betsson mobile app for iOS devices. It had no reviews and a somewhat dodgy Russian sounding company created it. We did wonder if it was a scam app to be honest, but Betsson confirm on the website that they do have apps for both iOS and Android devices (the Android app can be downloaded on the site).
The app is similar to the desktop site and unfortunately is nothing to get excited about. It is set up in a very generic way and can be quite tricky to navigate. There’s not a lot of ‘meat on the bones’ so to speak… GB mobile bettors aren’t missing out on too much here.
It’s also worth noting that the in-play service on the app is pretty dismal too so all in all Betsson reviews very poorly in this category.
Betsson Desktop Review
Betsson’s bright orange livery is one that is similar to 888Sport, but there the similarity ends. While 888Sport are a solid site, Betsson’s site isn’t particularly well thought out. Too many times you click on something and it takes you somewhere other than where you wanted to go.
They’ve even installed a promotions tab on the sportsbook page, despite not having any offers that we could see at the time of writing the review.
Market wise, there’s a good choice of sports, including some popular in the Nordics and central Europe which are not as popular elsewhere, but the number of markets offered on fixtures is generally much smaller than what the better sites, such as BetVictor, William Hill or Bet365 have to offer.
Overall, Betsson isn’t a company that UK betting fans should be too concerned about not being able to join as there are far better options out there.
How To Join Betsson
To join Betsson it is a relatively quick and easy process, if you live in a country where the site is available.
- Click on the Create Account button in the top right corner.
- A page will load up where you need to enter your details. This includes your email address, as well as selecting a password for the site.
- Once you have completed all the details, select a deposit limit if you wish to do so, then check the boxes that relate to being contacted about promotions if you wish to be contacted.
- Click the Create Account button and you should have your account created almost instantly.
Once your account is created, you are now ready to deposit some funds to it.
Markets & Odds at Betsson
What sports can you bet on at Betsson?
- 30+ different sports
- Confusing layout
- Tight odds
- Live streaming
The first thing that you will notice about the sport section of the Betsson site is that there’s lots of markets all crammed together, odds plastered all over the place…it’s nothing short of confusing. They need to take a real look at what’s going on with their user experience and design, the app isn’t much better either.
Betsson do offer a number of different sports to bet on though, all of which can be found listed on the left. These sports are:
- American Football
- Aussie Rules
- Formula 1
- Gaelic Sports
- Ice Hockey
- Politics & Business
- Winter Sports
This wide number of sports is due to the fact that this is an international sportsbook, so popular sports from all different countries must be covered.
Each of the sports listed on the left of the page can be expanded to show all of the different events taken place, both in the future and in the present. While some have hundreds of markets – such as football and ice hockey – others are more limited.
You can be assured though that all major events in every sport are covered. It’s the smaller events where Betsson struggles. They also struggle to compete with the big boys when it comes to the competitiveness of their odds and for this we’ve naturally had to score them down.
Want better odds? In our experience Betvictor have the most generous odds when compared to all other online bookmakers.
In-Play Betting Review at Betsson
Is live betting offered at Betsson?
- Cash out available
- Live streaming
- Limited stats & scores
- Confusing interface
The live console offered on Betsson ranks poorly when compared to other online bookmakers. You get live scores but game stats are severely limited (as you can see from the screenshot).
There’s no graphic for action areas and to be honest you barely get any game info aside from the score and time of the event.
One plus point that Betsson have going for them when it comes to their live betting section is the fact they do offer live streaming. Just look out for the live button or play icon to see which matches can be streamed.
To watch live streams as a customer at Betsson all you need is a positive balance in your account, if you meet that criteria all streams are free. Horse racing streams are not available.
If you want a better option for in-play betting and live streaming check out these best bookmakers for in-play betting.
New customer offers at Betsson
- Nothing for new customers
- Little reason to join
- Better value elsewhere
- Don’t bother
No review of Betsson would be complete without a full and detailed analysis of their welcome offer… in this case though that didn’t take very long at all!
Quite clearly Betsson have no interest in offering value to new customers, or giving them a reason to join, as no welcome bonus is offered.
You’d be better off checking out the free bets & bonuses available at other bookmakers.
Note: at the time of writing this Betsson review a promotions tab is available on their website but the page is empty.
How To Use The Bonus
Given that Betsson doesn’t seem to offer any bonus for their sportsbook customers, there is no bonus to use on the site. We think in this day and age that is a pretty shameful situation to be honest and one of the reason’s we’d not recommend the site.
Our Verdict of Betsson
Betsson have scored a whopping 2 stars out of 5 in our review. As you can probably tell that isn’t very good…
The best thing we can probably say about them is that they are fully licensed and regulated, after that it’s all downhill.
The fees that they charge for deposits are nothing short of shocking, a 2.5% fee on Visa, Mastercard or Maestro deposits is a total rip off and something other bookmakers just don’t do. We hate to see it.
Quite frankly their site needs a redesign before we would class it as usable. In it’s current form it’s confusing and it doesn’t translate well to mobile either.
Unfortunately when it comes to a welcome offer there’s even more negativity. Betsson don’t offer one. IT’s like they are sticking two fingers up at punters, it’s standard to offer a bonus and these guys don’t think they need to to win your business.
Bottom line… just don’t bother and instead head over to our betting reviews to find yourself a much better home.
How To Contact Betsson
You can contact Betsson customer services team in a number of ways:
- Live Chat – This is an almost instant service, and you should get a response quickly.
- Call Back – You can request a call back and this can take between 15 minutes to an hour to receive a call back from Betsson customer services.
- Email – If you send an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) Betsson aim to respond between 30 and 60 minutes after receipt.
How To Close Your Betsson Account
You cannot close your Betsson account from inside your account. Instead, you have to contact customer support using one of the services outlined above and ask them to close your account. You can elect to have a temporary closure called a Time Out which lasts between 24-hours and 6 weeks, a Self-Exclusion period of between 6 and 60 months, or you can close your account completely.
