Champions League Tips – 7th & 8th December

Champions League TipsThe profit keeps rolling in! This weekend we made £61 profit thanks to two of our tips coming in, including the Southampton v Brighton correct score of 1-1, which really boosted the profit up nicely. That coming after a number of winning weekends just all keeps adding to the profit.

So let’s try and continue that this week with a couple of tips articles coming your way, first up for the Champions League final round of games in the Group Stage, Matchday 6.

If you are looking for some unusual results, then this is the week to have a bet on an underdog or two. Many of the top teams in this competition have already qualified for the next phase and some have also clinched top spot in the group. What that means is that these teams may well play a very under-strength team for their games.

This affects the four EPL clubs, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea, all of whom have qualified from their groups, City and Liverpool also guaranteed top spot. PSG, Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Juventus are also all through to the next round too.

So it is possible that when I go through these games, you may see an odd pick based on form and the likely reason for that is that I am banking on one of the teams listed above playing a much weakened side against an opponent who needs a win to either qualify for the knockout phase or at least claim third spot in the group and a place in the Europa League in the New Year.

I do much prefer to pick games where teams will play full strength teams, so those games will likely be the main focus of this week’s Champions League tips that I’ve outlined below.

Champions League Tips: Tuesday Tuesday 7th December

AC Milan VS Liverpool
07/12/2021 8:00 pm GMT

Key Stats

Liverpool are already qualified from the group as winners, winning all five games so far.
AC Milan need to win and for FC Porto to lose or draw at home to Atletico Madrid to qualify.
If Milan draw, then the highest they can finish in the group is third.
Liverpool are likely to play a much-changed team for this game.

AC Milan looked dead and buried in this group after three games, but a win and a draw in their last two mean that they could still make the knockout phase of the tournament. If they can win this game and if Porto do not win their game against Atletico Madrid (see below).

They will face a Liverpool side that have been brilliant in the tournament so far, winning all five games in a tough group, to win it and they rested a couple of key men for the game with Porto last time out at Anfield and still emerged with the win.

However. Away at the San Siro is much tougher and Liverpool’s record in Italy is not that great and with so much more at stake for the home side, I am backing them to land the win here that will give them a very real chance of qualifying for the knockout phase.

FC Porto VS Atletico Madrid
07/12/2021 8:00 pm GMT

Key Stats

A win for Porto will qualify them for the knockout phase.
A draw for Porto will be enough if Liverpool beat or draw with AC Milan.
Atletico Madrid must win and better Milan’s result to qualify.
The teams have met 7 times, with 2 wins each and three games drawn.

The other game in Group B is also going to be fiercely contested, although both teams will also have a close eye on how the game at the San Siro is panning out. The other three teams in Group B have been well matched in this group, so I am expecting another tight game here between these two teams.

I can see this being one of those dramatic games where both sides start cagey but by the second half, and knowing how things are going in Milan, the game will adapt. If Milan are winning, then expect both these teams to go hell for leather to try and land the win here. Whereas if Liverpool are winning, then I’d expect Atletico to push up the pace in the second half.

The two teams have a very even record and my gut feeling is that they are both going to go for the win after a cagey first half. I am backing Atletico to score, but Porto to net an equaliser but whether that is enough to get through remains to be seen.

UCL Tips: Wednesday 8th December

Atalanta VS Villarreal
08/12/2021 8:00 pm GMT

Key Stats

A win for either team will confirm them as qualifying from the group.
A draw would ensure Villarreal qualify second behind Manchester United
The first game between the two finished in a 2-2 draw in Spain.
Yeremi Pino will be absent for Villarreal through suspension.

With Manchester United already qualified from this group after their fine win in Spain on the last Matchday, this is now a showdown game. A win for either side puts them through and as such, and especially given their most recent form in all competitions, that looks to be a positive more for the home side than the visitors.

Atalanta have won four and drawn one of their last five games while Villarreal have just one win in their last five and have lost on three occasions. The Spanish side are also without a key man in winger Yeremi Pino and I think his absence is going to be keenly felt against an Italian side who do ship goals against teams that can counter against them.

Pino’s absence robs the Spanish side of one of their best countering options and I think that puts this game in the hands of Atalanta’s attackers. Duvan Zapata is a key man for them but he wilneed to sharpen his scoring boots if he is to fire Atalanta into the next phase.

I did almost go for a draw here but I think on current form and with one of their key men absent, Villarreal are going to struggle and as such, I am backing the home side to land a narrow win in a game that could see plenty of goals at both ends.

Bayern Munich VS Barcelona
08/12/2021 8:00 pm GMT

Key Stats

Bayern Munich won 3-0 in the first leg in Barcelona on the opening night.
The Germans have won all the last 3 meetings, scoring 14 goals to Barca’s 2.
Bayern have already qualified, Barcelona also qualify with a win.
If the game is a draw or Barcelona lose, Benfica would qualify with a win over Kyiv,

Barcelona could have been on the verge of an exit from this competition if they had lost their game with Benfica last week instead of drawing it. The Portuguese side missed a glorious chance late on to claim the win which means that Barcelona are still in the driving seat for 2nd in the table in the group.

Bayern have already swept to the top spot with five wins and the Germans have been by far and away the best team in the group. Even if Julian Nagelsman elects to rest some key men here, Bayern’s strength in depth is so great that I think even a full strength Barcelona are going to struggle to cope.

The Spanish side have an awful record against the German Champions in recent times and they are going to know that they will likely need a win here, with Benfica likely to beat Kyiv in the other game in the group, which takes place in Lisbon.

I think Barcelona’s need to win is going to be the key here as I can see the German side picking them apart as the Spanish side come forward to try and secure the win they need and if they do, then I see Bayern Munich picking up another easy win with a 3-1 scoreline feeling about right for this one.

Correct Score – Bayern Munich 3-1 Barcelona - £10 returns £130
