Euro 2020 Football Tips – Sunday 20th June
Sunday sees the tenth day of action at Euro 2020 and we are now into the final set of group games, starting with the games in Group A, which of course features Wales.
At this stage of the tournament, both remaining games in each group will kick off at the same time. We have Group A playing to a close today, followed by Groups B and C tomorrow, Group D on Tuesday and then Groups E and F on Wednesday.
After this time we will know the identities of the 16 teams that make it through to that Round of 16 and who will be facing who.
Here’s my tips for the two games taking place today in Group A.
- Group A – Italy V Wales (5pm, Rome, Italy)
- Group A – Switzerland V Turkey (5pm, Baku, Azerbaijan)

Euro 2020 Tips: Sunday 20th June
Having landed two 3-0 wins against Turkey and Switzerland, Italy have already qualified for the knockout stage and a draw or better here would ensure that they finish top of the group. Roberto Mancini’s team have been one of the standout nations in the tournament although I do expect the Italian manager to rest key players for this game.
Wales boss Robert Page has already hinted that he too may rest key experienced players for this game. Wales have four points and while not mathematically certain of a place in the knockout phase, it would take an odd series of results for them not to qualify. Furthermore, if Turkey beat Switzerland or the two teams draw in the other fixture, Wales will finish second in the group.
As such, I think Wales are going to be very much a weakened team as the likes of Bale and Ramsey I think will be rested in anticipation of a knockout phase game. That makes Italy the very strong favourites here, even if they too rest key men.
I’m not sure what the score will be here, but I am backing Italy to be in front at both half time and full time to land a comfortable victory.
I think given the situation for both these teams, we can expect a game where both teams will be looking very much to win the game. A draw is no use to either side and will likely result in the elimination of both from the tournament (and will certainly eliminate Turkey).
Of the two teams, Switzerland have looked the better of the two and although they were well beaten by Italy in their last game, I think they did well against Wales and should be the favourites coming into this tie.
The Turkish side have flattered to deceive in this tournament so far and without having scored a goal, conceding five (and it could have been many more), I don’t fancy them to end this tournament with a point to be honest.
With the necessity for a win pressing for both teams, I am expecting a good game here with goals at both ends but I would be very surprised if Switzerland don’t emerge as the winner perhaps by a 3-1 scoreline.
