FA Cup Final Tips: Saturday 18th May

FA Cup Final TipsLast weekend was the final one of the Premier League season and while there are still plenty of leagues coming to a close over the next couple of weeks, not to mention the play-offs and the FA Cup Final is my focus for this weekend.

This years FA Cup Final is between Man City and Watford where City are going for an unprecedented domestic clean sweep having already won the Community Shield, Carabao Cup and Premier League.

They are of course massive favourites to come out on top and anything less will be seen as a BIG upset.

That being said I can’t see them having it all their own way on Saturday…

Key Stats
  • Man City come into this game with just one defeat in their last 22 games with just one draw (the Carabao Cup Final) in that run.
  • In contrast Watford have won just one of their six games since beating Wolves in the semifinals, an away win over Huddersfield.
  • City won both encounters between the teams in the league this season, winning 2-1 at Vicarage Road and then a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium in March.
  • City have won all of the last 10 games between the teams and are unbeaten in the last 14 matches between the two. Watford’s last win in this fixture was in 1989.
Analysis:

Can Manchester City complete the most dominant season in British football history in terms of trophies won by landing their fourth domestic trophy of the season on Saturday night? Watford stand in their way of an unprecedented four trophies from four, with the Charity Shield, Carabao Cup and Premier League already now in the bag.

City’s success is remarkable, if build on some very shady financial dealings in the background which have allowed them to sign so many players and pay them so extravagantly. Even so, it is still a remarkable achievement for the team to have won so much in a single season under Pep Guardiola.

Watford’s chances look slim to non-existent based on their current form compared to City’s and the relative strengths of both sides. City have an incredible record over Watford in recent times too and there’s nothing in the stats or the potential teams that suggests anything other than a convincing City win.

That is how I see the game going too but I do feel that Watford, as Brighton showed last week, can take advantage of a set piece or two to perhaps grab a goal. However, I can’t see it being any more than a consolation here as I am backing City to win relatively comfortably.
