Football Betting Tips: 1st, 2nd & 3rd January 2021
After a really miserable last couple of weeks of 2020 for my football tips, I am hoping that I can get back to the better form I showed earlier in December.
Almost every team is experiencing odd runs of form at the moment… Chelsea and Spurs have won just one of their last five and have more defeats in those games than the likes of Fulham, Burnley and Everton.
We are also seeing goals being somewhat more difficult to come by and a lot more drawn games. Personally, I feel this is down to fatigue. I think it is especially evident on teams that have also been involved in European action this season with perhaps only Manchester United (and to a lesser extent, Man City) bucking that trend of late.
So, this is something I need to factor in going forward on my tips and I think I am going to play things a little safer, especially over January and then as clubs get a little more rest in between games as we head on through 2021, I think we may see a return to more consistent performances from a number of teams then. I will intersperse these ‘safer’ selections from time to time with a better odds bet, such as a correct score bet, in the hope of landing a few of these over the coming weeks.
With that in mind, here are my selection of tips for the first set of games of 2021! Happy New Year and let’s hope 2021 is better one for us all!
Premier League Tips: Friday 1st January
With four wins in a row, no team has better recent form than Everton, while West Ham have lost one and drawn three of their last four matches. This game also sees a return to Goodison Park for David Moyes, who won’t fondly remember his last visit here in September when Everton ran out easy winners 4-1 in the Carabao Cup.
The Hammers have been a little inconsistent this season and although they are comfortably in mid-table, they have not really strung an impressive run of results together. Everton in contrast have been very patchy, winning four games in a row at the start of the season, then stuttering over a number of games and now they have won another four in a row.
I do feel Carlo Ancelotti is a very astute signing by the Everton board and he will and has improved the team markedly already. They do miss the creativity of James Rodriguez when he is not fit though and as such, I think they won’t be matching the score they achieved in the Carabao Cup.
Even so, I still feel that the Toffees are good enough to win this game and I think this will end up as a 1-0 or maybe 2-0 victory for the home side.
After a slow start to the season, Manchester United seem to be gaining some momentum under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, even without looking like genuine title contenders. Unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League games, United have climbed to second spot in the table and have a game in hand on Liverpool to close that gap still further.
Aston Villa have a game in hand on United and two on Liverpool and sit fifth in the table and they have undoubtedly been the surprise team of the season on the back of a number of excellent performances. Unbeaten in their last five games, winning three, Villa’s success has been built on a staunch defence and the creativity of players like Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley and John McGinn.
United’s defending has also improved markedly of late, especially at home, and as such, this is a game that I think may well be decided by a single goal, much like the Man Utd v Wolves game was decided by Marcus Rashford’s very late strike.
Villa’s record against United is shocking over the years and I can’t see them improving that here either. I am backing United to win this one to nil.
Football Predictions: Saturday 2nd January
Leeds have been involved in 10 games this season where both teams have scored and in four of their last five games, both teams have found the net in games involving Spurs. As such, I think that this suggests that two teams, one with an incredible work-rate and attitude to attack, and one blessed with a couple of the most potent strikers in the EPL, suggests that a goal or two should be scored at each end in this game.
Spurs downturn in form has been costly as it has seen them drop six places in the table, although they do still have a game in hand. However, Leeds at home will be a tough test for Jose Mourinho’s men, although they do have the benefit of having been well rested ahead of this game after their match with Fulham was postponed earlier in the week.
Leeds haven’t had the benefit of that extra rest, but I don’t think that will faze Marcelo Bielsa’s team here. He always expects a high-octane performance from his team and he will get it. I think Leeds will score a goal here, but I think with a rested Kane and Son and a chance to prepare longer for this game, that will benefit Spurs greatly.
As such, I think Spurs will come out on top here and claim a victory either by a 2-1 or 3-1 scoreline.
Football Betting Tips: Sunday 3rd January
There is some degree of doubt as to whether this game will go ahead on Sunday with Manchester City’s squad being hit by a Covid-19 outbreak earlier in the week. Their game with Everton was postponed on Monday but with no further positive tests recorded on Wednesday, City may be able to field a team here.
What that team will be remains to be seen if they do play and that uncertainty you would think would play into Chelsea’s hands. However, Frank Lampard’s team are not firing on all cylinders at the moment and like Liverpool and Tottenham, their form is stuttering a little.
City have such quality and depth of squad that even if they are missing a few starters Guardiola can call upon some big name replacements and as such, they will still be more than capable of giving Chelsea game.
Even with their issues, City’s form of late has been excellent and I think they won’t end that run of unbeaten games here as I am backing this one to end all square, most likely by a 1-1 scoreline.
