Football Betting Tips: 26th, 27th & 28th September
The good news is that after a disappointing first week of tips of the new season, we recorded a profit of £27 last week.
I’m hoping we can start to build on that going forward even though things are a little tougher than usual to call.
For example we have had 11 away wins and 7 home wins in the 18 games this season, with no draws at all across the opening two weeks of matches.
It’s only a small sample but the impact of no crowds could already be starting to tell.
I’ll be taking that into account this weekend when we’ve got some belting fixtures to look forward to this week including Man City v Leicester and Liverpool v Arsenal.
Check out how I expect things to go down below.
Premier League Tips: Saturday 26th September
The question in this game is not just which Manchester United team will turn up, but which Brighton team will also be on display at the Amex. The Seagulls were well beaten by Arsenal in their opener but put on a superb display to beat Newcastle United at St James’ Park, with right wing back Tariq Lamptey the star of the show with an outstanding performance particularly in the first half.
Manchester United though were extremely poor against Crystal Palace at home, losing 3-1 and in truth they never looked like getting anything from the game once they went behind. It was a big blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he would have hoped his team could get off to a solid start this season to put the pressure on the teams at the top of the table.
I do like the way Brighton play in general and in Lamptey, they have a player that reminds me of N’Golo Kante, although he plays in a different position. However, I can’t believe the United that finished last season so strongly in the EPL have faded so badly over the short break that they had. Ring rust or not, I expect them to improve.
As such, despite that great win at St James’ I am backing Man Utd to come away from the trip south with their first three points of the season, although I do feel that the home side will grab a goal in reply.
Football Betting Tips: Sunday 27th September
Both of these teams have put in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde performances over the last couple of weeks. Tottenham were woeful at home to Everton in defeat but played very well when smashing Southampton 5-2 on the road last week. Similarly, Newcastle were superb away to West Ham, winning 2-0 in London, but were then thumped at St James’ Park last week by a reinvigorated Brighton.
Away wins have predominated this season and both of these teams have already experienced that, losing at home but winning on the road, which tends to suggest Newcastle are the pick here, especially given that last season they managed to land a 1-0 win in this fixture.
However, I do feel that Spurs are slowly starting to evolve into a Jose Mourinho team and the addition of Bale and Reguilon will, I feel, give them a real new cutting edge, especially down that left hand side which has been a problem for them at times.
I do think this will be close and I do fancy Newcastle to score, but I think Spurs will eventually come out on top winning this one either 2-1 or 3-1.
Manchester City produced a superb first half display to take a 2-0 lead at Wolves but they ran out of steam in the second half and in the end were grateful to Gabriel Jesus’ late goal to confirm the win as they were hanging on a little at times in the second half and that may well be a worry for Pep Guardiola even at this stage of the season.
Leicester have had no such problems smashing in seven goals in their two games with just two in reply to sit atop of the table on goal difference. However, this is a real acid test for Brendan Rodgers team as to whether they will be in the top four battle once again, or whether they still have some way to go to match the top teams.
I do feel Leicester will give City a real test this weekend but in truth, I cannot see them having enough to grab the win here. If City can sustain a performance like they showed in the first half with Wolves then I think even if Leicester score a goal, which I feel they will, the home side should still run out winners.
Monday Night Football Tips: September 28th
Two 100% records will meet at Anfield on Monday so something will have to give and although Arsenal beat Liverpool in their game at the end of last season in the Premier League and then won the Charity Shield against the Reds on penalties, Liverpool’s record at Anfield against Arsenal is excellent and the Gunners have suffered some stinging results there in recent times.
That said, the Gunners do have some really dangerous players that can cause Liverpool problems on the counterattack, much in the same way Leeds United did and I think the Gunners will take heart from how easily Leeds opened up Liverpool at times.
However, I don’t see Mikel Arteta’s team going quite so gung ho in their approach here and as such, I think that more cautious approach plays into Liverpool’s hands and after their great win at Chelsea last week, I feel the Reds will pick up another big three points here, although I do fancy Arsenal to grab at least a goal on the counter attack.
