Midweek Football Tips – 14th to 16th December
Given that this is a busy period, I am having to get these tips written sometimes before my previous set of tips has come in, and at the moment I am hoping my two Sunday tips will land in order to set me up with another good profit after my two Saturday tips just missed out.
This set of tips will cover the games between Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th December when all teams will be in action, Covid permitting of course. It is the second midweek set of games in December, with another to come in between Christmas and the New Year period too.
So as you can imagine, when you add onto that the Champions and Europa League games next week, it’s a pretty busy time and as such, I am looking to keep on top of things and keep the profit that I have picked up over the last few weeks coming in.
There are some very interesting games this week including a big London derby as Arsenal take on West Ham with fourth spot in the Premier League very much in focus. Manchester United also have a say in that and they face a tricky trip to Brentford.
We also have Chelsea and Liverpool in action on Thursday with the Londoners taking on Everton at Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool face Newcastle United at Anfield.
The day before, there’s some action at the foot of the table with Burnley facing Watford, a game both sides will fancy they can win, Crystal Palace and Southampton face off too.
It’s going to be an interesting week as the title race develops. There are signs that this is now turning into a three-horse race and further home wins for Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool will likely confirm that this week.
Here’s the midweek selections for you.
Football Betting Tips: Tuesday 14th December
I think this has the potential to be a very good game and I think we could see two sides really go for it here. Dean Smith will have plenty to prove against the Villa hierarchy who sacked him as manager and there has already been a marked improvement in how Norwich are defending since he took over.
Similarly, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard won’t want the man he succeeded to get one over his new team here. Villa have lost narrowly to Liverpool and Manchester City since Gerrard took over, winning the other three games, so they will have an eye on winning this one.
I do feel both sides are a little susceptible defensively. Dean Smith will know where to target the Villa back line and I think that gives Norwich a chance to score a goal. But I also feel that Norwich will give Villa chances in attack and I can see the midland side taking full advantage.
I can see a game that is end to end but which may be decided by a late goal in one team’s favour, at the moment I think that is most likely to be Villa given their better attacking players and the fact I think they have tightened up a lot under Steven Gerrard defensively.
Football Betting Tips: Wednesday 15th December
The big game on Wednesday night comes at the Emirates Stadium as sixth placed Arsenal take on fourth placed West Ham, both with eyes very much on a place in the top four at the end of the season and the fortunes that come with qualifying for the Champions League.
Of the two, West Ham have been the better team this season, but their form has hit a bit of a bumpy patch of late and while Arsenal have had a couple of defeats in recent times, both on Merseyside, they have looked pretty strong at home as their 3-0 win over Southampton at the weekend showed.
I can see this game being decided in the second half and I think at half time both managers will be happy to go in level at the interval. However, I think in the second half, the extra time Arsenal have had to recuperate will tell in this busy period and I think that gives them an advantage here.
My feeling is that this game will be level heading into the last 10 minutes or so but then Arsenal will grab a late winner as West Ham tire in the game and as such, that HT/FT tip of the Draw/ Arsenal is a good value bet to consider here.
Football Betting Tips: Thursday 16th December
A few weeks ago, Chelsea hardly looked like conceding a goal against any team, but in their last five games they have shipped 11 goals, including three goals on three occasions and that has led to them dropping points in the title race.
They also needed a controversial late penalty to take the win at the weekend over a spirited Leeds United side but having conceded eight goals in their last three games, it is clear that there problems starting to emerge in defence for Chelsea.
The Londoners have a very tough run of games coming up over the next few weeks and into the early part of 2022, including games with Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as trips to Wolves and Aston Villa, so they are going to have to sort out their defensive issues quickly.
Everton though should not pose too big a threat as despite their win over Arsenal in midweek, the Toffees don’t really look like a side that are going to cause this Chelsea side too many problems and as such I am backing the Chelsea defence to get back to some good form here.
Liverpool had been scoring plenty of goals of late, but their 1-0 wins over Wolves and Aston Villa have showed that they can also get the job done when things are tighter. They face a Newcastle side who are struggling this season and but who did pick up their first win of the season in midweek last week against Burnley.
However, the Toon army struggled at Leicester and it is hard to see them being able to repeat their feat of two draws against Liverpool this season like they did last. As such, I am expecting Liverpool to get back to some of their stronger attacking and goalscoring football that they showed over the last couple of months.
Key to that of course is Sadio Mane and Mo Salah and I think Mane is the man to watch for Liverpool in this game. Salah will likely be the main focus for Newcastle, but I think Mane is the perfect player to take advantage of the space that will be afforded him.
As such, I am going to go for a rare first goalscorer bet here and take Mane to grab it.
