Premier League Football Tips: 23rd & 24th October
Two disappointing sets of results from my last set of Premier League and Champions League tips means I am relying on my Europa League tips to come in on Thursday night (I’m writing this before the games have finished) to turn the week around.
However, there is an intriguing line up of games this weekend to enjoy, including a Premier League Clash of the Titans to enjoy on Sunday.
The action begins on Friday night with Arsenal taking on Aston Villa, but then we have nine games across Saturday and Sunday including a massive clash at Old Trafford as Manchester United welcome their fierce rivals Liverpool in the hope of securing a massive three points against a Liverpool team that are undefeated in the Premier League this season.
With Chelsea having what looks like an easy home game against Norwich City, and Manchester City facing a trip to Brighton that they will feel they should win after a big win in Bruges in midweek, that game at Old Trafford, as well as Spurs trip across London to face West Ham, could have a big impact on how the league looks after the weekend.
For me, I’ve had a couple of disappointing sets of tips and I want to put that right with this selection for this coming weekend. So here’s my picks for Saturday and Sunday’s games.
Football Betting Tips: Saturday 23rd October
Watford were dismantled 5-0 by Liverpool last week and now they travel to that city to take on the Reds rivals Everton, who also need to bounce back after losing their second game of the season last week at home to West Ham.
Rafa Benitez’s side lie 8th in the table, but with just one win in their last four, their early season challenge is in danger of petering out a little. So the Blues need a good performance and three points to put them back on track.
With Watford having already sacked one manager, the Toffees may have a good chance against Claudio Ranieri’s team, especially if the Italian hasn’t managed to address the many issues that showed up in the defeat against Liverpool last week.
I think this will be another tough afternoon for the Hornets and I am backing the Toffees to get back to winning ways in style with a 3-0 win.
If you are a Brentford fan then you have been waiting a long time for a win over Leicester City, as the Bees last beat the Foxes in March 1953, a 3-2 win in the old League Division Two. Admittedly. They haven’t met too many times since then, but Leicester have come out on top in the vast majority of those games.
However, you have to take those kind of stats with a pinch of salt as this Brentford team is nothing like those other Brentford sides and I think the Bees are more than capable of giving the Foxes a game, especially after their brilliant showing against Chelsea, which despite losing 1-0, they fully deserved to get at least a point from.
A couple of weeks ago, I’d have backed Brentford here but Leicester have had two massive wins this week over Man Utd and Spartak Moscow, scoring four goals both times and with Brentford’s home form not the best, I think Leicester are a team that can take advantage of this.
The Bees fans tend to be at their most vocal and supportive in games their team are not likely to win, but here I feel that they may feel they can win this game, but I think that may play into Leicester’s hands. I can see goals here but I think Leicester will win a thriller.
Football Betting Tips: Sunday 24th October
London derby games can be somewhat unpredictable, as we say on Monday night in the Arsenal v Crystal Palace game. This game sees West Ham lock horns with Spurs and in recent years, both teams have enjoyed success, and failure both at home and away in the fixture, with no real trends to follow.
Form then may be our best bet to pick a good bet here and again, it is not a lot to choose between the teams. Spurs away form isn’t great but then again, West Ham’s home form hasn’t been all that much to write about either.
One thing that I think does matter is that despite having more points Spurs have scored fewer and conceded more goals than West Ham and I think that will matter here, although with Harry Kane getting off the mark last week, you never know if this is the start of a run of goalscoring games for the England captain.
This is a very trick game to predict but I think that the odds on a home team victory here are very good, so while I am not 100% convinced, I am going to back West Ham to land a narrow win, just as they did in this game last season.
There are no bigger Premier League rivals than these two teams and games between the two are always ones that stand out in the fixture list. Both teams come into the game on the back of big wins in the Champions League in midweek, with Liverpool having the added benefit of a day’s extra rest and also being unbeaten this season.
United though won’t need any extra motivation to end the unbeaten record of their most fierce rivals and with Marcus Rashford now back after a shoulder operation, the striker will be a player Liverpool fans won’t want to see fit, given how good his record is against them over the years.
Liverpool though won this fixture 4-2 last season at Old Trafford and that was without their first choice defence. With their attack on fire at the moment, and Mo Salah at his very best, it is hard to see United’s defence, which has looked shaky, keeping the Reds at bay for 90 minutes.
However, I can say the exact same for Liverpool’s back line which looked very susceptible in Madrid just as it did against Brentford and I think with United having home advantage, they may well do enough to earn a point in this game against their rivals.
