Premier League Tips – 11th & 12th May
Welcome to a special midweek set of tips for the Premier League.
There are a number of crucial games taking place across the three days that will seriously impact how things stand at the top of the table, in the race for Champions League and Europa League places, as well as which team will be going down along with Watford and Norwich City.
It was a seemingly pivotal weekend in the title race as Liverpool could only manage a draw at home to Tottenham, while Manchester City extended their lead to three points with a 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle United at home.
That win puts City four goals better off in terms of goal difference, as well as three points clear and with just three games to go, that looks a very big ask for Liverpool to close.
Similarly, we have a crucial game in the race for fourth this week as Arsenal and Tottenham go head to head in what could be a crucial game between the two.
The game is being billed as a showdown for fourth spot, but with Chelsea’s form taking a nosedive, with just one win in their last five games, there is still a chance that both these teams could catch their London rivals in third spot in the table.
At the bottom end of the table, Everton face a crucial game away to the relegation bound Watford, while Burnley don’t play in midweek and Leeds face a massively important home game against Chelsea having dropped into the bottom three at the weekend.
The next two games may well decide the title race with Manchester City and Liverpool both having tricky away games. City away to Wolves and West Ham, while Liverpool travel to Aston Villa and Southampton. Both teams finish their season at home (City face Aston Villa, while Liverpool take on Wolves).
It promises to be an exciting build up to FA Cup Final weekend and here’s our tips for this selection of midweek games.

Key Stats
Analysis
There’s some really unusual stats with this game. Chelsea have dominated the fixture in recent times, but their only wins at Elland Road since 2000 have come in the League Cup, they have lost once and drawn twice in the league in that period, despite amassing seven wins over that time.
So Leeds do seem to have something of an X-factor over Chelsea when it comes to home league games. They drew 0-0 with Chelsea last season and 1-1 the year before that. So since Leeds got promoted back to the Premier League, Chelsea have not won against them in the EPL at Elland Road.
When you look at Chelsea’s form in recent weeks, that doesn’t really make convincing reading for them being able to change that on Wednesday night. Just one win in their last five league games has seen both Arsenal and Tottenham closing the gap on Thomas Tuchel’s men and to finish any lower than 3rd in the table this season would be a real disappointment.
However, on the plus side, Leeds’ form at the moment is not great and Chelsea are playing for a place in their Cup Final team at the weekend, and with that in mind I think they may just edge this one, but I think a tight and edgy 1-0 win for the visitors is the most likely score.

Everton picked up a massive win at the weekend away to Leicester, only their second win of the season and it was enough to move them out of the relegation zone and above Leeds and Burnley by a point and with a game in hand.
The position looks so much better for Frank Lampard’s team and after two wins in a row, and two much better performances, it finally looks like Everton have woken up to the danger they found themselves in of being relegated from the Premier League for the first time.
Watford, on the other hand, have slumped to a sixth successive defeat at the weekend and that was enough to confirm them as relegated from the division. The Hornets are now building for next season and their owners need to shoulder a fair share of the blame for their predicament, given how quickly they get rid of managers.
The home side don’t have anything to play for other than pride, but they did beat Everton 5-2 at Goodison this season in what was their best performance of the season away from home. However, I think after that win at Leicester, the Toffees will do enough to land another key win here.

Manchester City can take a big step towards the Premier League title with a win here against a Wolves side that they have beaten on their last three meetings and given the form City have been in over the last few weeks in the Premier League, where they have scored plenty of goals in big wins, it is hard to see them slipping up here.
The one concern City have is in defence where they have three key absentees, but given the depth of the squad City have, they can still bring in top quality internationals as replacements, so I don’t see this being too problematic, especially against a Wolves side that do not score too many goals.
Wolves beat City twice in 2019 when Adama Traore’s pace caused City major problems, but with the Spaniard on loan at Barcelona, I can’t see Wolves having that kind of impact here and in truth, I think this will likely be a comfortable win for the visitors.
I couldn’t decide on scores or whether both teams would score here and looking for the value, I think Bernardo Silva is due a goal in the Premier League. He didn’t start at the weekend, which suggests he should get a chance here and I think he is a solid option to back as an anytime goalscorer bet.

Analysis
This may be the game that has most riding on it this week. Spurs need a win to close the gap on Arsenal to a point, and perhaps on Chelsea to two points depending on how Chelsea get on against Leeds earlier in the week.
In any case, anything less than a Tottenham win here will likely mean they miss out on a top four spot and I can imagine that this is playing on the mind of Spurs fans and players as they seek to maintain a spot in the top European competition to help make them attractive to new players they want to sign.
The Gunners are in a similar predicament, but both teams may be buoyed by Chelsea’s lack of form of late which could offer both an unlikely route into the competition at the expense of their London rivals.
So I am expecting a big game here and I think Spurs just have the edge. I can see both teams scoring but I think Spurs edge this 2-1 to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
