Premier League Tips: 11th-13th May
Well, what have we here? With there being a number of games in the Premier League taking place from Tuesday to Thursday this week, I have decided to bounce back from my last set of tips (which were frankly disappointing) and get back to winning ways this week.
These games are not a scheduled match week but are a chance for teams to play their games in hand. In addition, Chelsea and Leicester, who face off in the FA Cup Final at the weekend, will also play the games that they would have ordinarily played on Saturday or Sunday.
Add all that up and that gives us a nice selection of five games across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week to pick from!
And there are some crackers to look forward too, especially if you are a Manchester United fan with home games against fourth placed Leicester City and sixth placed Liverpool coming up on Tuesday and Thursday.
Crammed in between are a big London derby where Chelsea take on Arsenal and a big game in the midlands where Aston Villa and Everton will clash with the Toffees still holding on to faint hopes of a Champions League qualification spot, but more realistically in with a chance of Europa League football next season.
Let’s take a look at the tips we have put together for this set of midweek games.
Football Betting Tips: Tuesday 11th May
I fully expect to see United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rest a number of key players for this game, indeed, he may well elect to change almost all his first team selections from the game with Aston Villa on Sunday, especially with the match against Liverpool coming up on Thursday.
Even so, United should be able to put out a very strong team. The likes of De Gea, Tellez, Williams, Bailly, Matic, Mata and Cavani would likely walk into many other teams in the Premier League. And I think that is going to be a concern for Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers too.
The Foxes were well beaten by Newcastle last Friday and though they have had time to recover from that poor performance, their record at Old Trafford is dreadful and without Jonny Evans in defence, if he does not recover in time, I think they could struggle even against a weakened United side.
As such, I am going to go for a home win here as I do feel United are strong enough to land the win even with their ‘cup side’ playing, especially against a Leicester side not in the best of form.
Football Tips: Wednesday 12th May
It’s been a fantastic few weeks for Chelsea, not only have they reached the Champions League final, they have beaten Manchester City twice, once in the FA Cup Semifinal at Wembley and once at the Etihad ahead of their clash later on in the month in the show-piece UEFA event.
That 2-1 win over City at the weekend is a massive boost for Chelsea in that competition and also a huge fillip for them in their quest to finish in the top four as it meant they leapfrogged over Leicester City into third in the table.
Arsenal, after their Europa League exit last week, now have little to play for other than pride and a place in this squad next season. Mikel Arteta has a few quality players to build around but this is a team that looks like it needs major surgery in order to be a contender once again next season and beyond.
As such, I think Chelsea will want to cement that third placed spot with a win here against a side that handed them a 3-1 defeat when they last met. That was with Lampard as the manager but with Tuchel in charge, I fancy a solid win for the home side in this one.
Premier League Tips: Thursday 13th May
Aston Villa’s win at Goodison Park a little while back was a blow for Everton and their hopes of qualifying for European competition next season. However the Toffees could put themselves back in contention with a win on the road here.
Villa went down 3-1 to Manchester United at the weekend, a typical second half comeback from United enough to give the Red Devils the win. Villa though are better than that scoreline suggests and they have done superbly well under Dean Smith this season.
Everton are also much improved under Carlo Ancelotti and they will be looking to push on towards that top four, or at least the top six here. I fancy the Toffees to get something here as their away form is so good and Villa essentially have very little to play for in their remaining games.
I can see a similar game to the one we saw between Everton and West Ham at the weekend when the Toffees won by a single goal and a similar result here would not surprise me.
It does seem from the odds being available on Manchester United in both the Leicester and Liverpool games this week, that the bookies reckon that the odds are against the Red Devils winning either of these games. I find that hard to reconcile to be honest given their form.
It should be noted that United will obviously rotate players but they have a fantastic squad of talented players to pick from and even a second-string team is going to be able to put up a display against any other team in the Premier League on any given day.
Fatigue may be a factor for United late in this game but I also feel that the adrenaline from taking on one of their most fierce rivals will spur them on. I also feel, if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to rest key players, it won’t be for this game.
Liverpool badly need a win here, but I don’t think that they are taking enough of the chances that they create to do so. United are a very strong side nowadays and regardless of the fixture congestion, I am taking the great odds on them to win a home game here.
