Premier League Tips – 18th & 19th May
Well, after Southampton’s win over Fulham and Liverpool’s over West Brom, we managed to eek out a profit of £6.80 over the four games at the weekend (assuming £10 stakes).
Not exactly massive but a profit is a profit so I’ll take it.
This week sees the culmination of what has been a somewhat odd Premier League season. Not having fans around has made things very unpredictable.
Hopefully though with fans at Wembley at the weekend and home fans set to return, albeit in smaller than usual numbers, for the games in midweek and the weekend, we can get back to some semblance of normality for these last couple of sets of games at least.
Despite it not having many fixtures to get you excited, I think there is still a chance of some solid profit here, to set us up nicely for the last set of games of the season at the weekend.
Here’s my tips for the midweek Premier League action.
Football Betting Tips: Tuesday 18th May
In 93 total games between these teams, there have been just 20 draws, and none of the last ten games have seen the points shared between the two teams. Leeds have drawn just five games this season (only Sheffield United have fewer) and so I think a draw is the unlikeliest result here even though the teams seem well matched.
Both have won their last two games in excellent fashion, the Saints with two 3-1 home wins to move them up the table, while Leeds beat Spurs 3-1 and then hammered Burnley 4-0 at the weekend with a superb performance against their Lancashire rivals.
The Elland Road side won the game between the two 3-0 earlier on this season and I think they can complete a league double over Southampton here if they play anything like they have in their past two games. Marcelo Bielsa’s team have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League this season and I expect them to finish strongly.
As such, I can’t really see how they will win in terms of goals and whatnot, but I do feel Leeds are the team to back for the win here.
Leicester celebrated their first FA Cup Final win over Chelsea at the weekend, but you could argue that this game is even more important for both teams, with Champions League football very much at stake, with Liverpool seemingly closing in on the top four.
A defeat for either side here could mean them needing to win on the final day to ensure a fourth placed finish and if Chelsea lose, even a victory may not be enough if Liverpool were to win all of their remaining games. Both teams also face tough games on that last day, Chelsea away to Aston Villa, Leicester at home to Tottenham.
As such, this game is hugely important and I think having been stung by Leicester’s victory at the weekend, Chelsea will want to put in a much better performance, especially with their home fans back in the stadium and I think that is likely what will happen here.
I do think Leicester will score a goal here, but I think Chelsea will probably edge this game to put themselves in a very strong position to finish in the top four.
Football Tips: Wednesday 19th May
It’s fair to say that of all the teams in the Premier League Aston Villa fans don’t want to face, Tottenham may well be the one. Spurs recent record includes 15 wins out of the last 17 encounters, with just one defeat in that run (April 2015) and Spurs have won all of the last six between the two teams since.
In fact Spurs have won 12 of the last 13 games between the pair, which means that they should be rightly regarded as the big favourites here, especially when you consider that at stake for them is a place in European competition next season by finishing in the top seven.
There’s no doubt that Villa’s recent woes are consistent with Jack Grealish being absent for many of those games and while the England man is set to return, I don’t think he is going to make enough of a difference to help Villa avoid defeat here.
I do think Villa will score a goal, but back Kane, Bale and Son to fire Spurs to a comfortable win in this one.
The record between these teams is unusually symmetrical, both in historic terms and over the last 12 games too. As such, this does make this game seemingly difficult to predict, but I think in terms of need and form, West Ham are clearly the team to back.
David Moyes side are pushing hard for a place in Europe next season and while a Champions League spot now looks unlikely, they are going to need to finish no lower than 7th to ensure they earn a Europa League spot. With Everton, Tottenham and Arsenal all in with a chance of that spot, plus Liverpool still a factor, the Hammers do need a win here.
The Baggies on the other hand have little to play for, although a number of players may be hoping to secure a move back into the Premier League with another team. I can’t see Sam Allardyce being in charge next season though, but if he is players will still be keen to finish the season strongly.
However with West Ham’s need being much stronger, I think they will land the win here, although I think both teams will find the net.
