Premier League Tips – 18th & 19th September
Well, we made a slight loss on the Champions League this week but a slight profit on the Europa League to leave us more or less even (-£5 overall).
Not the end of the world by any means so now we move on to this set of tips for this weekend’s games in the Premier League.
There is one game taking place on Friday night in the EPL, as Newcastle United host Leeds United st St James’ Park, so we have a choice of nine other games taking place across Saturday and Sunday this week and I think there are some pretty good selections to be had from these games, which offer us the chance of some decent returns.
The big game of the weekend sees Tottenham host Chelsea in a cracking London derby, while across the City a couple of hours beforehand, West Ham United will take on Manchester United in what promises to be a very exciting day of action on Sunday.
So there’s lots to look forward to this weekend and we have given you our top tips for four of those matches below.
Football Betting Tips: Saturday 18th September
The last nine games between these two teams have seen one of the two win and only three of those games have seen both teams score. Watford have held the upper hand most recently, winning five of the last six, but I think Norwich’s situation is so desperate that manager Daniel Farke will have earmarked this game as one they need to get something from.
Unfortunately for Norwich, they are discovering life in the top flight as tough this time around as they did a couple of years ago but I think that after a tough start where they have played some of the top teams in the division, they can look forward to some potentially easier games where points should be available.
This is one of them as while Watford have won a game this season, they have also lost three others and they will also be well aware that another defeat here against a potential relegation rival could be very costly.
As such, I think this may well turn out to be a cagey game like several games between the two of late have been and as such, I think opting for the draw is the smart move here.
There’s no doubt the loss of Jack Grealish and also perhaps Ross Barkley returning to Chelsea has impacted Villa this season, but I think they spent the money they got from Grealish’s sale well and that will pay dividends for them over the course of the season.
They face a tough test today though in the shape of an unbeaten Everton side who are one of four teams with ten points from four games and who, depending on other results, could go top of the table with a win or draw here.
Rafa Benitez side have started the season well despite his controversial appointment in the summer and although their best performances have come at home, they have picked up a very good win at Brighton on the road too, but I do feel Villa may be a sterner test for the Toffees.
This should be a good game and I do feel both teams will find the net but I am not certain that either of them will do quite enough to pick up the maximum point haul here and as such, I think the draw is the best option to back.
Premier League Tips: Sunday 19th September
Manchester United suffered something of a setback in the Champions League on Tuesday when, after being reduced to ten men after Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s sending off, they conceded two second-half goals to Young Boys to lose their opener 2-1.
In truth, their away form this season has been a little sketchy. They were held by Southampton and hung on to record a somewhat fortunate 1-0 win over Wolves. West Ham will certainly provide a much tougher test than either of those teams did but in some ways, that may be better for United.
The Hammers are unbeaten this season winning two and drawing two of their opening four games and with Michail Antonio in good form, though a doubt through injury for this game, the Hammers have continued their good form of last season into this campaign too.
However, I think United seldom if ever come back from a loss with another defeat or even a draw and I think that with Cristiano Ronaldo in fine form already for the club, United will secure a win here, although I do expect both teams to find the net.
After making an unbeaten start in their first three games of the season, Spurs were defeated 3-0 by Crystal Palace last weekend, a result which dropped them to seventh in the league table and has also left them without their first choice centre backs, with Eric Dier a doubt due to injury and Japhet Tanganga suspended after being sent off in that game.
With Hyeong Min Son also likely to be absent, Spurs are going to be facing a very dangerous and unbeaten side without three key men in their team and although Steven Bergwijn may be fit again, I do feel that this does swing the pendulum in this game Chelsea’s way.
In addition, Chelsea will also probably have N’Golo Kante back from injury too and after a positive result in midweek in the Champions League, they should come into this game full of confidence, with Romelu Lukaku having netted three goals in his last two games for the club.
It is the threat of Lukaku against a makeshift Spurs defence, plus the absence of Son which has made me go with my bet here, which is a win for Chelsea by a 2-0 scoreline, which offers a very good return.
