Premier League Tips – 1st & 2nd January
We didn’t have any luck with our Boxing Day games but in truth I am not surprised, given that I was trying to dodge Covid-bombs, as Thomas Tuchel calls them, and pick from the games I thought would go ahead, I wasn’t as confident on the games that I backed as I usually am.
We begin the New Year with a set of Premier League games taking place this weekend on the 1st and 2nd of January. There is another game on Monday Night as Manchester United face Wolves, but I am not considering that game for these tips.
New for this year, I am going to keep a record of every bet I make in this article, the type of bet, how much a bet wins (or loses) and from that I’ll be able to gauge which bets are the most successful, which are the most profitable and perhaps more importantly, which are not either of those! I’ll bring you information on that with the tips throughout the year.
All that remains is for me to wish you a very happy new year and let’s hope 2022 is going to be a healthy and profitable one for us all!
Football Betting Tips: Saturday 1st January
It seems strange that two top four teams, both having won all their last five, sees the away team such overwhelming favourites to win the game, but the form that Manchester City are in at the minute it is hard to see any team breaking their dominance.
Arsenal though have matched City punch for punch over their last five games scoring the same number of goals as the Premier League table toppers. Their improved form has seen them move clear in fourth place in the table and onto the shirt tails of the three teams above them.
However, the Gunners record against Manchester City in recent times is dreadful. Their only recent win was in an FA Cup Semifinal but in the last 12 games between the two, City have won 11, including a 5-0 thrashing of the Gunners back in August.
With such a talented squad packed with so many quality players, City are the one team who can do without players and not suffer too much as a result, but their squad is fit and in form and even Arsenal’s great form of late means I can’t back them to do anything but score here in a City victory.
London derby games can be pretty intense, even though there are several of them a season and this one won’t be any different. Both teams had valuable wins in midweek and both have also had seasons better than expected so far. However, with the league being so tight, a slip of form can see that good work undone.
Patrick Vieira has got Palace going well and they showed they can cope without Wilfried Zaha in their win over Norwich in midweek when their star man was suspended. However, they are going to need an even better performance here to get the better of a West Ham team who are challenging hard for a top four spot.
The Hammers had a blip in form of late but a 4-1 win at Watford in midweek was a perfect boost for the team and pushed them back into contention for the top four. However, a loss here would undo that good work.
West Ham have had a number of key defenders injured but they seem to be getting to grips with that now and with Palace’s form being sketchy this season, I am backing the visitors to come away with a narrow win in what should be a good game.
Football Betting Tips: Sunday 2nd January
I have to say that I thought Brighton were superb in their game with Chelsea in the week and had they had the ability to finish off the chances they created then they would have won the game very comfortably.
The 1-1 draw means they have drawn with Liverpool and Chelsea away this season and they also made life very difficult for Manchester City. If they could score some goals, then they would likely be much higher up the table than they are.
Everton have scored goals but have found keeping them out the other end a problem under Rafa Benitez. A solid start has given way to a poor run of form of just one win in their last 11 games in the EPL and the pressure is most certainly on the Toffees manager here.
The home side do have a good record against Brighton and with key men starting to return I can’t see Everton losing the game but Brighton are draw specialists and I can see that being the outcome here.
This game was always going to be a crucial one in the title race but given that both these teams dropped points in midweek and Manchester City moved eight points clear at the top of the table, now makes this a game neither team can afford to lose, or, realistically, draw.
Chelsea do have a few injury problems in defence with Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Reece James all likely out. Other players are coming back from injury and illness though but their match fitness levels are something that Thomas Tuchel is not yet certain of.
Liverpool have a relatively healthy squad ahead of this game, so far at least, but they need to win to keep apace with City and this will also be their last game with Mane, Salah and Keita for a month as they leave for the African Cup of Nations after this game.
The Reds have scored a number of free kicks in this game in recent times and I think that is a good bet here. Chelsea’s makeshift defence is going to be edgy and I can see them conceding a free kick and I think Trent Alexander Arnold could make them pay from one of them.
