Premier League Tips – 23rd & 24th April

Author: Published: April 22, 2022

Premier League TipsWe had a nice profit of £29.50 last weekend thanks to two results coming in. For once a late goal proved to be helpful to me as it meant Newcastle landed the win over Leicester City that I’d predicted and ensured that I turned a £22 profit on Sunday to add to the £7.50 profit I’d made on Saturday.

Arsenal’s win at Chelsea was the only midweek bet to land but returned £42.00 from a £10 stake so a profit of £2.00 on the round. Basically break-even but still better than being in the red.

This weekend is going to be another big one in the Premier League with some key games to enjoy.

First up we have Arsenal hosting Manchester United in what is going to be a crucial game in the race for fourth place in the division. There’s also a key midlands derby between two mid-table team with higher aspirations, Leicester who host Aston Villa.

Manchester City can go four points clear with a win over Watford, while Norwich face Newcastle at home in what is a must win game for the Canaries against a now mid-table Newcastle side.

There are four derby games in the five remaining games including two London derbies a south coast derby and the Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield with the Reds in superb form after their 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United in midweek.

Let’s take a look at my Premier League tips for this weekend…

Football Betting Tips: Saturday 23rd April

Arsenal VS Man Utd
23/04/2022 12:30 pm GMT

Key Stats

Arsenal are 5th (P31, 57pts), Man Utd lie 6th (P32, 54pts).
Arsenal are 5th on goals scored behind Tottenham, both are 5 behind Chelsea in third.
Erik Ten Hag has been confirmed as Man Utd’s new manager and takes over in the summer.
United have won just one of the last 7 EPL games between the two (D3, L3)

A look at the current form and recent history of this fixture doesn’t make great reading for Manchester United fans. Their sole win in their last seven games against Arsenal came at Old Trafford earlier this season and United have failed to score on each of their last three visits to the Etihad Stadium, losing two and drawing one of those games.

The news that Erik Ten Hag has been appointed as the new manager may have been some welcome news but it does male Ralf Rangnick’s position at the club even more impossible than it was before and in truth, I feel United have left the German to hang out to dry over these last six or seven games of the season.

In contrast, Arsenal’s fine win at Chelsea in midweek, which I predicted for my midweek tips and a nice profit, has them in great spirits ahead of this game, especially as they know that they are now level on points with Spurs in that race to finish in the top four.

Given the fortunes of the teams over the last week or so and the fact that Arsenal are at home where they have a very good recent record against United, I am backing the Gunners to win a tight game, probably by a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline.

Brentford VS Tottenham
23/04/2022 5:30 pm GMT

Key Stats

Brentford lie 12th in the EPL (P33, 39pts), Spurs are 4th (P32, 57pts)
Both teams have won four of their last five games in the EPL.
All of the last three games between the two have finished in a 2-0 win for Spurs.
Brentford’s last win over Spurs came in March 1948.

Both these teams have been in relatively good form over the last few weeks. Spurs did drop a clanger at home to Brighton last weekend, losing that game 1-0, which gave Arsenal, West Ham and Manchester United a chance to close the gap on them in the table.

Brentford though have won all of their last there and four of their last five games in the Premier League and it is fair to say that signing Christian Eriksen has proven to be a masterstroke for the Bees as the Danish ace has given Brentford the creative edge in midfield, as well as a genuine goal threat.

Signing Eriksen may have been viewed as a risk given what happened in the summer, but it has proven to be an inspired piece of business, and on Saturday night he will take on his former club in front of a national audience in what will likely be a very emotional game for him.

It is in games like this where there is almost a sense of inevitability as to what will happen. I can’t really call this game as it could be so close, but I do feel the fates are aligned for Eriksen to score against his former club and I am backing him as an anytime goalscorer bet here.

Christian Eriksen to score at any time - £10 returns £70.00

Football Betting Tips: Sunday 24th April

Chelsea VS West Ham
24/04/2022 2:00 pm GMT

Key Stats

Chelsea lie 3rd in the EPL (P31, 62pts), West Ham are 7th (P33, 52pts).
The last 12 games between the two have seen 5 wins each with 2 draws.
Chelsea have lost all of their last 3 home games (Brentford, Real Madrid, Arsenal).
West Ham’s last Premier League away win came back on 1st January at C.Palace.

Given the chaotic situation surrounding Chelsea at the moment with the potential takeover, an embargo on renewing contracts and player sales or purchases, it is little wonder that Thomas Tuchel’s team have suffered a bit of a blip in form in recent weeks.

Three home defeats in a row have seen Chelsea concede 11 goals in those games and for a team that was built upon a rock solid defense, especially at home, that is a shocking statistic as they head into this tricky game against a West Ham side that has enjoyed a fantastic 18 months.

The Hammers may just be on the fringes of the top four race now but they are still very much in the Europa League and I just wonder if the team may have their mind a little on next week’s semifinal first leg clash with Eintracht Frankfurt ahead of this game at Stamford Bridge.

I wouldn’t blame them for that as in truth, winning the Europa League would offer them a route into the Champions League so I think the Hammers may have their eye off the ball a little here meaning Chelsea can get back to winning ways.

Liverpool VS Everton
24/04/2022 4:30 pm GMT

Key Stats

Liverpool are 2nd in the EPL (P32, 76pts), Everton lie 17th (P31, 29pts)
The Toffees did win this fixture last season 2-0, their first win at Anfield since Sep 1999.
However, Liverpool won 4-1 at Goodison Park earlier this season.
Jurgen Klopp may opt to rotate players ahead of their Champions League game next week.

After a superb 4-0 win over Manchester United last week, teamed with a 3-2 FA Cup SemiFinal victory over Manchester City, it is abundantly clear that Liverpool are flying at the moment and what is so impressive is how they are now able to rotate their squad in midfield and attack without losing any quality.

I can see Jurgen Klopp resting a couple of players with this week’s Champions League semifinal first leg tie with Villarreal in mind but even so, the Reds will be picking a team and player that has been in great form of late and who will likely give Everton real problems.

The Toffees have the worst away record in the Premier League but they will be hoping that a derby game can get their team motivated. However, after scraping a draw with Leicester in midweek, it could well be a long afternoon for the Toffees.

The way Everton are conceding goals is a real worry for me and in truth, it looks likely that the home side will enjoy another substantial win and I think one of their star strikers could well be in for a good afternoon.
