Weekend Football Tips & Predictions: 2nd & 3rd October
£78 profit, in the Champions League which was then followed by a small profit of £9.50 in the Europa League.
Almost £90 in profit in the week wipes away the memory of last weekend and means that we are on the up as we head into another set of Premier League games before an international break.
This set of games though has plenty riding on it, with some crucial matches at the top and bottom of the table. We have a double helping of Merseyside v Manchester this weekend, starting with Everton making the trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United and then capping the weekend off we have Liverpool v Manchester City at Anfield.
Those games are big enough but we also see Chelsea looking to bounce back after two defeats in their last two games, Tottenham hoping to end a three-game losing streak in the Premier League, as well as Brighton hoping to continue their amazing start at home against a rapidly improving Arsenal, who have won all their last three.
So, there was no shortage of high-quality games to pick from this week, but I have put together a selection of tips which I think will help us add to what was an excellent midweek.
Football Betting Tips: Saturday 2nd October
Manchester United got back to winning ways in midweek with a last-gasp win over Villarreal in the Champions League, ending a run of three defeats in four games. Everton, who were thumped 3-0 by Villa the previous week, got back to winning ways last weekend with a 2-0 win over bottom club Norwich.
The Toffees have started the season well under Rafa Benitez and he will be hoping he can put one over United once again, as he did on a few occasions when managing Everton’s city rivals Liverpool. He will certainly have his team set up tactically for this game.
We saw United look vulnerable against Villarreal in midweek and I think Everton will try similar tactics. Whether they can do that any better than the Spanish side remains to be seen but I think it will certainly be Benitez’s plan to dent United’s attacking threat.
Whether they can do that over the full 90 minutes I am not too sure and while United are not in great form, I still think they have enough firepower to earn the victory here, although I do see both teams scoring.
It has been pretty evident after they lost their first two games to Liverpool and Manchester City that Norwich were going to struggle in the Premier League this season and that has certainly been the case so far with four more defeats following on from those opening two games.
The Canaries are leaking goals and have scored just two in those six games, both from Teemu Pukki, and in truth, they have not looked likely to pick up a point, let alone win any of those games and confidence looks to be at a pretty low ebb in the team now.
Burnley have also not won a game in the Premier League this season but some of their performances have been excellent and a draw with Leicester last weekend was a good result and one Sean Dyche’s team can build on here.
These two teams may look well-matched but I am confident that Burnley are the much better side and I expect them to prove that here. I also feel Norwich’s tendency to overplay at the back will be their undoing here and I can see Chris Wood being the man most likely to profit from this.
Weekend Football Predictions: Sunday 3rd October
Tottenham started the season very well but then lost three on the bounce in the Premier League, last weekend’s being the most hurtful defeat as they were well beaten by Arsenal in the North London derby. They bounced back in midweek, Harry Kane netting a hat-trick in an easy 5-1 win over Mura in the Europa Conference League.
Villa have had a week to prepare for this game after their superb 1-0 win at Old Trafford against Manchester United last weekend so they should be well prepared. Dean Smith’s team look set for another good season this year and they certainly won’t make it easy for Spurs.
However, I think that with Harry Kane back amongst the goal, Son back from injury and Tottenham in need of a response after their poor showing last week at Arsenal, that the home side should be very focused on picking up the points here.
There’s not too many draws when these two teams meet so I am backing Spurs to continue their generally very good form against Villa (won 12 of the last 14 games) and come away from this game with a narrow win, for which I think a correct score bet of 2-1 is the best option.
Even though this game is only seven weeks into the season, it could have a massive impact on the title race. A win for City would mean that they have beaten two of their main title rivals in the space of a week away from home, while a win for Liverpool would extend the gap between them and City to four points.
The home side come into the game defending the last remaining unbeaten record in the Premier League this season. They were held 3-3 by Brentford last weekend in what was a hugely exciting game, but put things right in midweek with a thumping 5-1 win away at FC Porto.
City began the week well with that huge win over Chelsea but they were beaten 2-0 in midweek in the Champions League by Paris St Germain and they have already lost once in the Premier League this season, losing on the opening day to Spurs.
These games can always be a little crazy and hard to predict, but this Liverpool side does look back to its best and at Anfield, with a proper centre back pairing and with City’s form still up and down, I think that the home side may just get the better of things, though I expect goals at both ends in this game.
