Full Written Review

Welcome to our Betfred review. We’ve got a number of sections to this review and if there’s something in particular you’re looking to find out about Betfred then use the quick jump links to find that section below:

License Information

Betfred is licensed by the Government of Gibraltar and is therefore regulated by the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner as well as the UK Gaming Commission. For conformation of the registration, the license numbers granted to Betfred are 036 and 038. It’s not that uncommon to find bookmakers based in Gibraltar and licensed by Gibraltar and the UK – they do it to avoid the large tax bills they’d get if they operated out of the United Kingdom.

The fact that Betfred are regulated by two government organizations means that Betfred must, among other things:

  • Behave in a manner that ensures that all gambling on the site is fair and unbiased.
  • Ensure that only those over the age of 18 are allowed to use the services offered.
  • Provide assistance to anyone with problems related to excess gambling.

Review of Markets

In this section of our review we’re going to take a look at what you can bet on and the live betting options at Betfred. Betfred offers the possibility to bet on a range of different sports, however the depth of markets per sport and per event isn’t quite up to standard with the likes of Betvictor and Bet365 so don’t be surprised to see less market options here. Sports that can be bet on include:

Horse racing, football, cricket, tennis, bowls, boxing, darts, basketball, golf, greyhounds, ice hockey, formula one, American football, rugby league, rugby union, snooker and MMA. There are also a number of different specials offered for subjects such as reality television and current affairs.

As can be seen, the amount of sports to bet on is wide, and the different sports can all be expanded on by clicking on the relevant selection on the menu, located on the left of the screen. This will bring up various options for each sport, all the way from regular bets, such as the final score, through to more obscure bets, such as the number of corners in football. As a general rule you will find less betting options per event than at some of the other bigger online bookmakers.

You can also access all of the markets at Betfred via the Betfred mobile app.

Live Console at Betfred

Live Review Betfred

Betfred also offer live or in-play betting if you prefer via a dedicated section on their website. The Betstream interface they use makes it easy to place bets instantly but there’s a complete lack of match stats for all sports and they don’t even display the score so they’ve got to be marked down for that. The odds are updated on an regular basis throughout any match but to know what’s going on you’ll have to be following on a different platform.

Their in-play offering is a real negative when you compare the live options offered by the likes of Bet365 who allow their punters to see full match information, live odds and in most cases a stream of the event taking place. Betfred need to get this sorted if they are going to compete with the big boys in the industry and for this reason alone we don’t believe they belong in the A+ or A rated categories.

With the above being said Betfred do offer a good range of deposit options and some of the best long standing promotions you’ll find, especially for football, so before you make your mind up check them out below.

Current Promotions

This review wouldn’t be a good one without a look at the promotions that are currently on offer. Below is a list of all the current promotions being run on sports betting at Betfred:

Double Delight – Should the player that you choose for first goalscorer complete this feat, then Betfred will double your winnings if they go on to score another goal in the game (they have the same offer for Rugby Union and NFL as well). T&C’s apply.

Hat-Trick Heaven – Much like above, but in the case of a hat-trick, your winnings will be tripled. T&C’s apply.

Goals Galore – One of Betfred’s most famous promotions. They provide a list of games and you assemble a both teams to score accumulator from that list. The number of selections determines which set odds you get and those set odds are usually a better price than if you’d placed the same bet with any other bookmaker. T&C’s apply.

Acca Insurance – Coral are another bookmakers with Acca Insurance so if you place a 5-fold+ with them and each leg of your bet has odds of 1.30 or higher then if just one leg lets you down you’ll get your stake refunded as a free bet up to £10. T&C’s apply.

Horse Racing & Greyhounds

BOG Horse Racing – This promotion applies to all UK and Irish horse racing. If you place a bet on any horse and the starting price is bigger than your price Betfred will payout at the increased odds. T&C’s apply.

Super Bonus Races – Place a Yankee, Canadian, Heinz of Lucky 15/31/63 using Betfred’s daily six Super Bonus Races and if you win you’ll get 15/50/100% bonus on your winnings as an extra. T&C’s apply.

5 x The Odds For One Winner – This applies to all UK and Irish based horse racing and greyhounds. Get 5 x the odds on one winner lucky 63 bets, 4 x the odds on lucky 31 bets and 3 x the odds on lucky 15 bets. T&C’s apply.

Money Back 2nd – This one is simple. Just back a horse to win in Betfred’s feature race of the day and if it comes second you’ll get your stake amount refunded up to a £25 maximum. T&C’s apply.

Best Odds Guaranteed Greyhounds – This promo is for any races shown live on the Sky Dogs. If you take a price on a greyhound and the SP price would have meant a bigger return you’ll get that bigger return thanks to this guarantee. T&C’s apply.

Betfred Review – 4 Stars Explained

In our reviews section we’ve given Betfred 4 out of 5 stars which is the third highest grade we dish out to any online bookmaker. They are licensed with a good reputation among online punters and when it comes to long standing promotions they have plenty available to football, horse racing and greyhound racing fans. They’re one of the only bookmakers with a long stand rugby promotion so they scored well for that.

There are a couple problems with Betfred and until they do something to resolve them we just can’t rank them any higher. Firstly their live betting offering just isn’t up to standard. There’s no live streaming and they don’t even provide the score of the match let alone stats on how the event has unfolded. Second up, whilst many sports are available to bet, the option of bets available per event is no where near as good as some of the other players in the industry. Often Betfred will have around 50 markets for popular events when others are offering 100+.

The bottom line is that until the above issues are fixed they won’t make it into a higher category and it’s only the depth of their promotions and double bonus for new customers that keeps them out of the B rating bracket.
